One of my SMC cards has gotten corrupted and I don't have a backup :( I once used a flash recovery tool that restored some files and I want to try it on this, does anyone know of a program that I can do this with? I'm looking for recommendations

thanks

the euro firmware (or just aquafish MFW, i dont know) has a built in ercovery tool. go to PC link without plugging the wire in. You should see something like "To check SMC, press select". If you press select, it will try to repair.

that is pac rom that has that option, i've had this happen a couple of times that all of a sudden my SMC goes haywire but Pac rom has been able to fix it with SMC recovery every time without losing any of my data.

Don't try Windows scandisk. Some people said it works.

Actually (atleast in Win XP) it corrupts the SMC beyond the GP32 being able to format it.

I had to buy another to fix it with (using Slubman Commander), and I still lost all my data.

Waaah! I want my Phantasy Star 4 savestates.

And Slubman Commander isn't very handy for me as I don't know German and I have to guess around.

thanks but the repair SMC thing didn't work, after trawling through freeware apps to run a check I finally found PHOTORESCUE which has recovered most of my files, except about 5 genesis roms. As it had renamed the first letter of each file I had to unzip the lot and zip them back up and presto!

Then I formatted the SMC with aquafishes built in SMC recovery and recreated all the folders - it's back to normal again :)

Windows scandisk is shit as if it finds lost clusters (files?!) it just dumps them in a FOUND folder and names them FILE000X.CHK which is useless, other software can usually recover the names and this is what I wanted. I'll be backing up all my cards in future

Oh and I believe the file system is FAT12 thanks yaustar I would have tried that if I hadn't fixed it already

EDIT: Just realised I did try that File inspector and it didn't work as you have to specify the file type you want to restore - it won't just restore any files it finds
