Firstly greetings and salutations to the team & all the forum members here,

Now my home life is approaching "normality" after a somewhat turbulent 2+ years, i can catch up with developments here.

I had completely forgotten that i had a pre-order for this device, and it was my wife's "whatever happened to that DS thingy you were waiting for.. another scam eh!" comment that reminded me, and after some significant interweb trawling (couldn't even remember the name of it) here i am.

I've just found my pre-order email with a date/time of 1 October 2008 20:33, are we anywhere near this yet?

After a brief browse through the different sections of the forum (there is a lot to take in) there seems to be a flurry of activity currently, can someone suggest the must read threads to bring me up to speed with developments & the ones that help with setup/config's etc.

Another quick question if i may, i have had a quick glance at PCSX-ReARMed and it looks stupendous but does it support NTSCJ games? (i have a lot) and does it have anything like the lovely shaders & filtering options available in Epsxe?

Thank You.

Welcome! You are lucky you found your initial order email. My web host's email dumped all of my backups as well as the original, luckily Yahoo didn't.

I would suggest you check out:

That might be the easiest way to bring you up to speed. Any of the stickies on the boards are worth reading too.

Not all that familiar with PSX so I'll leave that to someone else to answer.

There is a bunch of stuff that has happened, but at the same time things are much the same.

Good news, your order should be shipping very soon, second-day orderers have already started receiving shipping confirmations. You can keep up with all of that in this thread.

I have no idea about the PSX stuff, as I haven't been able to try the emulators out yet (my unit is being shipeed as we speak), sorry.

The wiki remains a great source of more technical info.

PandoraPress is an excellent, if non-official source of updates.

There is an official blog that is updated sporadically, but most of the content is reposted on PandoraPress anyway.

Also, you will likely see people complaining about several specific things here (nothing to get worried about, though):

- Premium' orders: In a controversial decision, OP (OpenPandora ltd.) decided to start selling units that are garuanteed to ship within 7 days, before fulfilling the preorders. The rationale behind this was that the extra money could be used to speed up production for everyone, and garuantee OP's survival.

- TV-out Cables: For various reasons that you will no doubt read about, TV-Out cables are not being produced/shipped currently.

- LCD Cables: Some cables tended to wear down after use, causing a 'purple haze' to appear on the screen. This has been remedied by a new way of wrapping the old cables, and a new company is manufacturing all future cables to a much higher standard (and these should be installed in the units starting within days, if not already).

- 'Squidgy' ABXY buttons / Squeaky L/R buttons: Reasonably self-explanatory. The L/R buttons can be easily remedied, and the ABXYs apparently improve with wear.

I will add anything else I think of here, and if you have any questions (no matter how simple) feel free to ask!

Yes. I have a few myself - as long as the games themselves are supported, you should have no problems with this. (Just as an example, if there's a game that doesn't work yet, its region isn't going to matter one jot in the end. )

and does it have anything like the lovely shaders & filtering options available in Epsxe?
No, and I'm afraid I don't know if this is planned or not, either.

I hope this is useful to you. :)

If it's any help I believe (maybe Exophase, sorry Exo if not) had said the Pandora was at least powerful enough to support some of the graphical enhancements to PS games, whether or not this will be added in the future is unknown as the focus right now is on the general improvement of the emulator. In time I'd like to think most everything will run great and the enhancements might come along after a while. I never had the privilege of owning a PS1. So thanks to the wonderful coding of very talented individuals, I someday soon will begin to discover this console and the many treasures I missed. (Yes I know I could do it on my PC, but I want real controls to do it justice.)

Things are looking good m8 here are a few pointers as far as emulation is concerned.

Mame4All. More or less perfect on any game ive tried (taking into account 0.37 compatibility).

Mame 106. Very impressive Raizing and some Sh2 games run at decent speed ie strikers 1945 2 Battle Garega run almost perfect(with overclocking).

Pc Engine More or less perfect compatibility needs improving most games run fullspeed.

Ps1 Some games run perfect with overclocking others run slowly or have sound issues ie sound is a bit out of sinc with game.

Megadrive and snes are practically perfect even Dsp1 2 and super fx games run more or less fullspeed.

Stick with this project the road may be long but its worth the wait all we need is a good mame 106 update (frontend anyone?) improved compatibility and this little system is worth its weight in gold.
