Gamestop / EB Games has these backlit handhelds for US$30 and I've seen plenty of photos of it but no videos. Videos of the older version that didn't look so great but the new one is supposed to be better.

Has anyone seen / played one of these in person or has a link to a video of it? thanks!

If you look at the outside (casing, not the screen) you will see that that video is not of a vg pocket, but of a gamespower 50 (although maybe they are the same thing..)

w/e the title of the video was vg pocket.
The one Nova posted is the one I'm writing about. It's the "vg pocket caplet". The vg pocket was the older not as cool version.

i'm tempted to pick one up for US$30 if it really has a backlit display and played descently. if i do, i'll make a video! :)

You'd expect LCD games for that price/packaging, how the times have changed :)

I don't really have much disposable income at the moment, but rest assured that when I do, I'll probably get one of these babies.

Without having to look too far, I found great reviews from both IGN and Gamezone

Saw a few of these at GameStop a while back but I was gonna rather spend my money on a game instead at the time. Haven't seen them anymore when I go to the nearest GameStop. I may actually pick it up if I see it again in the other stores.

I just picked up one of these .. It comes in different color schemes, and I got one with a med. gray d-pad and silver-paint case.

The screen is surprisingly bright and decent resolution for such a tiny size. Most of the games are ass though, but maybe 10-12 are decent fun for a quick 5-minute play (Bubble bobble clone, cart racing ... tetris, breakout, bejeweled clones) .. basically a collection of mediocre java games.

Not bad at all for $30. As for using the d-pad as a mod for the GP2X, it feels flimsy and cheap, I doubt it would fare any better than the stock stick. :p
