Great Games You've Found Since You Got Your Caanoo/wiz!

I have been re-playing Sierra's POint and Click adventures series "Kings Quest", and will soon be adding QUest for Glory to the list. These were the first game si played as a kid on my 386 pc. It's liek being young again... except for the arthritis, the receding hairline and the back pain...

I feel you although my first PC was an Apple 2e, which my folks have AND still works. (even the printer with the tractor fed paper too!)

I was jealous of friends who had IBM pc's with dos and had awesome games. I remember playing Ultima 6 on a friends, and went out and bought the game that week even though I couldn't play it! I kept it for years until my folks got a Mac that had a "power PC Dos card" add-on. It was a whopping 75mhz with 8MB of shared ram between the mac and PC side. I spent hours and hours messing with config.sys and autoexec.bat to squeeze out enough ram to play "Wing Commander 3" when it came out.....well, at least Xcom1 worked like a charm still!

Don't forget to check out the kings quest and Quest for Glory remakes done by AGD interactive, available for free download on their website: http://www.agdinteractive.com/games/games.html

Also don't forget the great 'Police Quest' 'Space Quest' and 'Leisure suit larry" series also!

Perhaps a master list of these recommendations would be helpful, along with comments by the ones who recommend them.

I just played Varth for MAME and it's a fun vertical shooter. I like playing games that are rotated on the Caanoo.

I just played the weirdest game, I've ever seen(haven't tested on caanoo, yet). This little psx gem is called LSD Dream Emulator and as the title predicts, it's really crazy.
You have to love the japanese, for producing such kind of games :)

LSD Dream Emulator does indeed work, unfortunately :D

Runs pretty ok. FPS takes a dive on outside environments.

Don't know if I should over or underclock in speed hacks to help.

Interesting topic, and a good source for games I should probably check out.
A lot of these are emulated games however, and I'm more interested in the homebrew games which is why I got interested in Caanoo to begin with.
So far I'd have to list 3 games in particular that come to mind off the top of my head.

1. Rotate Patisierre - it's just a fun classic puzzle game with crazy high replay value. I keep beating my previous records and I thought I'd maxed those out months ago!
2. Paper Wars - I've only played it a couple times, but it's a cool game and a HUGE inspiration and confirmation that what I want to do in homebrew games is TOTALLY possible. Awesome application of theory here.
3. Super Mario War - probably the only fan made mario game I've played where THEY GOT THE PHYSICS RIGHT! It actually feels like a mario game so you can play it without frustration. It's a fun little multiplayer romp, sort of a hybrid between the mario bros arcade game and if smash bros was an originial nintendo game. Multiplayer fun is where it's at!

Honorable mention: I just discovered Hex-a-hop and it's an awesome game, great gameplay, nice graphics. My only complaint is that it's a little tough using the diagonal direction pad. If it had touchscreen capabilities, it would be SWEET! But still an inspiration.

I found an unreleased yet basically finished game called Thrill Kill for PSX. Seems it was cancelled for being too violent. Fortunately it was eventually leaked.

I haven't tested it on the Caanoo yet as I'm completely out of room on my SD card.

Haha, that one looks sick. I'll see, if I can get my hands on it.

well this is just a list of games i found since the caanoo.

Sega: Hokuto No Ken, bloody beat-um up. Dahna Megami Tanjou, violent and bloody platform game. Super Fantasy Zone, radical spaceship game with an overabundance of level-ups.

Mame: Dino Rex, better than primal rage times a million. lots of blood.

Pcsx rearmed: Asuka 120% Burning Festival Final, a 2-d fighting game where all the characters are japanese schoolgirls. it's all about the never-ending combos.

I was having lots of fun playing Metal Gear Solid for the Gameboy Colour but the game crashes on the elevator rendering the game unplayable. :(

I'm having a lot of fun with Ridge Racer on the latest psx emulator, runs at full speed now to. Just awesome to see on a caanoo.

Han.

ltstone,
This exact same thing happened to me. i've tried different roms on different emulators and it always crashes on that exact part. must be fate.

I've come across some recent NES homebrew that's really good!

The first one is Blade Buster, which you can download here, http://hlc6502.web.fc2.com/Bbuster.htm

Another one is called Assimilate, get it here, http://filetrip.net/oldies-downloads/nes/download-assimilate-10-f30618.html

This one has some glitches but is still playable. It's called Neotoxin, the dl link is in the description on the YouTube page.
Sorry, I couldn't post another media file so I'll just supply the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYy_J8cfcw4

And if anyone is interested, here's a site with a bunch of homebrew for the NES. http://www.nesworld.com/homebrew.php

Nice one these look really cool, always up for some new recommendations!
