I have been asking a bunch of questions lately about GP32. i am really wanting a handheld system but i dont know which one. you have all been great trying to help me. but you all speak a second language. i have no idea what a wind-up is or how to encode a divx player or anything. i can see that the gp32x is for computer gurus. however since it can play mp3 and dvds i am wanting it. so a suggestion would be, GET THE FAQ UP ON THE SITE!! :( . because i always want the best, and the gp32 looks like it is the best right now. but should i wait till the backlit screen comes out to order it? i hope it wont be too long.

but the one thing that will sell me for sure is if it can play GBA games. i read an emu was being worked on for the GBA. I understand that a special emu for the gp32 has to be made to play GBA games. but could i use any rom? or do i have to wait for special roms for the gp32.

so here is my question, if i get a gp32 specific emulator, can i use any gba rom i find?

and thanks for all your help. i will probably continue to ask questions.

ok right here goes :)
it doenst play dvd's it plays video clips of DIVX files which have to be encoded to correct size & codec (4.12 i belive). The best player for this is moviepark im guessing not sure if any one has actually got it on these boards there be able to tell you on how good it is. The homebrew divx players arnt so great but getting better.

the screen looks fine you dont really need a light in it just a way for someone to make a extra buck i reckon :) but appratnly some lighting unit comes out first week of april.

RE: GBA Emulator
there is 1 emulator that we know of i belive and im sure you have seen some screenshots around somewhere- this emulator is not a public release only a few people have it probally close friends of the author. Its been shown running F-Zero and something else at the mo and im guessing it will be a while off of release at least until it is running @ a nice speed on a majority of games then maybe others updates will come sound, savin etc etc. However he may go for 100% before he releases it never know :D- there will be no GP32 specific GBA games in theory you will be able to play any GBA rom you find yes, but if you use emulators on your PC you will know that even not all games on pc have perfect sound/gfx or even run etc etc.

GBA roms, GBA roms.

everyone wants to know how to play GBA roms on GP32.
if you want them that bad, just shell out for GBA + flash kit (if that's the MAIN reason you want a GP32!) That way you're guaranteed 100 percent compatible emulation. Really.

Plus GBA has some nice emulation stuff going on in their camp as well. Mind you GP32 has (and will likely remain this way) better emulation in general - but if you want GBA, just buy a GBA! It's not terribly prohibitively expensive.

Lighting unit - I am waiting for the lit unit to be released b4 I shell out for GP32. Then I will be the first one in line!

btw. wind-ups is a shell I believe, kind of a windows-looking GUI that you can use in GP32. it's got some extra features too (e-book capability, image viewer, address book and stuff?) Main reason I would be interested in such a thing is that it's an easy interface to launch your emulators from, I'd suppose.....

MoviePark is an excellent piece of software! I highly recommend it.

Having said that, the movies must be encoded at something around 10 frames per second. That's great for cartoons (which is what I use it for), but it's not as good for live action. I wouldn't expect to use it to watch entire movies, but you could pretty easily do that. If I recall correctly, the movies I played ended up being just under 1MB per minute.

I wouldn't buy a GP32 with the hopes of playing GBA games on it. If you want GBA games, I would recommend buying a GBA. I am not saying that the GBA emulator won't work or that it won't ever come out. I just think that if you buy it with the plan to use it to play GBA games, you might be very dissapointed.

There are plenty of other things to do with the GP32. You mentioned that you want to play MP3s. The GP32 will do that without any special software.

moviepark is light years ahead of the free divx players. for one thing, it has the novel concept of sound. 10fps is more than playable, and i use it for a load of stuff (including a lot of cartoons and the odd live-action film).

mp3 playback DOESN'T require special software, the gp32 does that all by itself.

and a GBA is hardly expensive as a second purchase, considering the GBA-Sp is out.

remember that unless you own the original cartridge, GBA roms are ILLEGAL. the reason gamepark officially frown on emulators is that whilst many people are genuine gamers with a desire to play their legal games, there is an element which believes that programmers don't deserve money, they should live in cardboard boxes on the street.

I do like GBA, but all of their games i want were on snes. the games i really want are Phantasy star, which was for sega master system.(and the rest of the Phantasy star series.) Zelda a link to the past. si i would like GBA but the reason i would get it is for those.

and 3 more questions

1). Is there a sega genesis emulator?

2). The game Dungeon and guarder, is it in english or just korean?(like is there a patch, cuz the game looks pretty cool).

3). is www.lik-sang.com a good place to buy a GP32 from? or is there a better or cheaper place?

thx in advance.

Dungeon and Guarder is fully playable in English. I'm waiting for my All for Princess (Her Knights) to show up in a few days, which looks like a better overall game from the sounds of things.

There's no genesis emulator yet, but word has it that one is nearly complete & being held back for the time being.

i bought my gp32 from lik sang, they were great to deal with.

I live in the USA now, although I am originally from the UK. I bought my gp32 from craigix (member of this group) the website is http://www.gbax.com/gp32review.html, this is actually a link to a very good review, that Craig did, but there's a link on the bottom of the page to buy the beast.

The unit, with all the leads etc, credit card surcharge and postage was about $190.00 there was no customs charge and it came with a CD full of downloads, emulators, ports etc. The unit was English, though as someone on another post I think pointed out that the free-launcher is in Korean, this is the same where ever you buy the unit from, and has no adverse effect at all, it's just the loading screen.

It arrived in 3 days after ordering and I have had no problems with it so at all, registering, formatting, installing and playing but if you do get probs, someone has either gone through the same here so look for the threads, or if you get really stuck, the guys and gals on here are very supportive, and when the FAQ gets written you'll be well away.

So what are you waiting for get ordering

:D
