I've been doing some preliminary research into a Afterburner type light for the GP32. I've emailed a few companies today and I'll let you know if/when I get a response.

I reckon from the info I've seen on these company websites and after opening my GP32 up today that a front light + seperate power source for it is possible.

I've made a start here.

If anyone feels like making the page a little nicer then feel free to do so and I'll give you credit.

Is it possible to remove the front screen surround without taking the back off? Just if you could get to the screen that way you could use the ext port to power an internal front mounted light, like the afterburner, but without having to goto the hassle of soldering.

You could pull the grey "GAME PARK" surround off arround the screen. I assume it's glued on in the same way the screen was attached inside.
This would let you replace the front plastic panel if it were scratched.

To really get at the screen itself, you must take the back off as everything white you see underneath the grey border is part of the plastic molded front section.

Rino, from #gp32dev, said he caught word that GamePark had or was working on a solution that would not require actually removing the back. I don't know how, and it sounds like just a rumour, but it's something to go on as Rino is actually from South Korea.

Of course, this still isn't 100% confirmation that GP is going to release a kit. :)

On your site (the one with pics of opened gp32) the gp32 lcd has a small white (plastic?) shell looking thing around it ;) ? what is it? Can it be removed? And if so can you post pics of it removed? thanks :)

Yes it can be removed. It's just a plstic surround. It's function is to keep the screen exactly in place. It stick to the gum/glue on the inside front cover and on the back is the 4 white clips I mentioned. Next time I open up my GP32 I'll take some snaps of it.

What i was thingking is that it might be easy to (if it is big emough) drill small holes on the sides of it (the plastic) and place 2 SMALL leds there :) one on each side (but place them behind the lcd). i'll draw a diagram...

Yeah, I had though of the idea of LED's but I'm not convinced that's a satisfactory solution. There's some pretty damn bright white LED's out their (my nokia 8310 phone for example) but I think it would be hard to get this lighting quite right.
