Please help me.
I love my GP but I find diagonals nigh on impossible. Is there a solution as it's driving me to distraction :(

Well, the easiest solution is to pull your control stick up a millimetre or so (if you haven't done so before, it might be fairly hard, but it won't kill your GP). A slightly more awkward solution is to take it to pieces and try and put something on the pads to make them more responsive, or send it to Mashmods so they can do basically just that. But that does involve taking the thing to pieces, including a plastic bit that I have yet to find out the right way to remove (anyone know, btw?).

Hope that's helped :)

I asked this a couple of weeks ago but didn't get any good responses.

Read this link:

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showt...84&hl=diagonals

After looking into this I got hold of a dremel grinding thing and I enlarged the hole in the case of the GP32 that the joystick pokes through -- especially in the diagonal regions.

My joystick now responds fine in the diagonals and it was well worth the 10 minutes grinding.

By the way, you don't have to disassemble the GP32 to do this, simply pull the grey joystick directly up and it will pop off allowing you to grind the casing alittle.

Hope that helps

I wasn't aware the joystick even came off
Makes sense though. How would they get the case on otherwise.
I might just go down the grinding route so thanks guys :)

It's strange i hear load sof ppl say bout difficult diagnols with the joystick but ive never found it a problem, is it a problem on every gp or just on a few ppl's??

Its difficult to hit the diagonals without hitting a side first.

This makes it very hard to pull off combos in fighting games.

It also gets a lot worse as the unit gets older - when you first get the thing, it'll be fine, its just as you twiddle the stick more, for some reason it gets harder to hit them. Grinding sounds like a good idea, btw - might try that when this one gets unusably messed :)

I've always had probs with my diagonals but since I started pulling the pad out a little to help, it's definately gotten worse and it's more floppy too. That can probably be put down to the fact that I've given my little GP an absolute caning since the day I got it.....

Question about this grinding method; do you have to move the stick a long way to reach the point to move diagonally? I get the feeling it won't be very sensitive if you do this, I think I'd rather use little but accurate movements somehow

search on the boards
people say that it's really easy to do the joystick mod yourself and not worth send to mash (sorry mash)

Mines dodgy when it comes to diagonals. I've seen a few posts mentioning it so I believe it's fairly common. I'm unsure wether to try and yank it out or just put up with it (i'm the worst when it comes to taking things apart/"gently" removing things).

yeah so am i, i dont know if im gonna end up pulling too hard or something,

will there be an indication of how much or when i need to stop pulling?

yeah people say it's easy quite a lot, and there are a LOT of posts about this issue, but none which I have read go into much detail... some of us just aren't prepared to open up our pride and joy and have a tweak around... it's too dangerous!

I really want to fix this, but I can't warrant going on someones advise like "take it to pieces and try and put something on the pads to make them more responsive"
(no offence tobriand)

there will keep being threads like this till someone comes up with a proper fix, and I'm in the UK so I'm not sure about sending my gp32 to mashmods.....

I'll take some photographs explaining how it is done and put a link on here later, perhaps tomorrow.

It is really easy to do and you are not going to damage the GP if you use a dremel or similar -- if you use a drill however!!!!

Grinding? Pushing and pulling?? Sounds naughty. ;)

Seriously, the thought of grinding anything in my GP32 scares the crap out of me! I'm very cautious about handling this little gem, and only myself and my wife are allowed to touch it. :D
