I would like to use GP2X to inventory (when I'm not using it any other interesting things..). So I need to plug a barcode reader through USB. Can I do it? GP2X can support it?
If there are linux drivers for that USB barcodescanner it could work. But then again you would need appropriate software... Gp2x is meant for plaing games... If I were you I would get a palm or pocketpc. Maybe a rugged one which already has a barcode scanner built in or something similar!
GP2X is not just for playing games. You can use it for anything if you have enough knowledge.
Norbert Sebok, it's not impossible. First of all you need a break out box or powered USB cable and USB Host drivers to enable USB host function of GP2X. Also you need the drivers for Barcode Scanner. After all these, you need to develop or port an inventory software.
This would be an interesting project..
Remember the barcode games, where the different numbers made up the different fighters strenghs etc.?
Could be fun!

I never heard of Barcode games... but running around in your local shop, checking the prices with your GP2X if there is no price tag present... well, OK, it's a stupid idea .
barcode games are these weird little beasties where you usually battle two monsters, one of which you are in control of and whose statistics are generated based on a barcode you scan into it. so you run around looking for things to scan and try to find the canned vegetables or whatever that give you the best monster. also there was a barcode dragon ball z game for famicom that worked along similar lines, except i think it used its own custom cards for scanning.
