well the problem is obviously that its *NOT* an MPEG file, i converted it to .AVI for the GP2X .. although the link to the original file is of course, the original MPEG .. so just download the Pinguin.zip file from the gp2x archives instead and you will find that its an .AVI and it plays lovely on the gp2x ..

Ah, so it won't play MPEGs...

That's really odd, considering that MPEGs are just about the simplest movie format out there (no compression or decoding to worry about)... A strange design decision in the movie player software...

MPEG has no compression?? You're wrong : MPEG-1 on Wikipedia. And that's 1996, dude. Even VHS-like quality (VideoCD) had to be compressed. Do the math on one minute of *uncompressed* video at say 24 bits of color per pixel at 800x600, at 30 frames per second :

Nr. of Pixels : 800*600 = 480000
Nr. of Frames : 60*30 = 1800

So, 1800 frames of 480000 pixels, each defined by 24 bits (3 bytes), that's :

1800*480000*3 = 2592000000 bytes (2,471.9238281 MB)

Yep, that's right : 2 Gigs. :) That's why even MPEG is compressed, although even DVD is lower than 800x600.
