Hi Folks, The last few weeks my GP2X had had a lot of probs booting up (wavey lines after initial boot up screen) so i thought possible battery problem and it has had a few knocks so thought it could be a bad/split solder connector on the battery pack.

Upon taking the back off i noticed the "black thing (C106) " located at C13 on the board (circled on the pic) has come off :(

Does anyone know what this part is responsible for as in will it function fully without it (when it boots up) or could this the reason it is struggling to boot?

This mk1 over clocks to 280mhz so don't want it to end up in the bin :(

Sounds like a capacitor.

It is a surface mount device (SMD). If you look around the board there will probably be others of the same type.

You can source it at a specialist electronics store or repair shop. Or even use a non SMD of the same value (provided it fits). If youre good with an iron, you could even recycle one of another circuit board, like a dead PC motherboard, HD ect.

think that bit fell off mine when i opened it up after it spent 2 hours outside in the rain.

put it back together and it works fine.

very occasionally fails to boot but other than that it's cool.

It's all working again now :)

I think my GP2X has had a bad contact from day 1 on that component as i've never been able to have full volume on video as really loud bangs/expolsions made the screen go very wavey and usually caused it to freeze/lock up and there is a small scratch in the rear of the battery holder where that has been putting pressure on the component.

Ah well. All working again now and improved as video on full volume works and i dremmelled the rear of the battery holder to give it a bit more space so hopefully it won't happen again.
