Gp2x Interface Board

Guess this wasn´t news after all... :p or perhaps it´s cuse we are waiting for the review from craigix that this was taken away from the news section.

Anyway, if this interface board works like I hope it does I will sertenly get a GP2X. The Amiga emulator allmost made me buy it, but as it seams like it is not so good yet I feelt I could do with my GP32 for the moment. But when this comes out, and ppl starts adding multi player support...(as I hope ppl will do) I just must get it!!!! :)

Does anyone know if they've designed a case for it yet?
I really liked that idea a while back for the case and cable to molded in to some kind of dock...

Stupid question from a father of four - I try to read everything I can about the BoB's, but I lack Squidge, Epicenter, Vimacs etc's knowledge so I'll shoot this out there:

Stupid Question #1:
2 player with 2 GP2X's - connect both to a Break Out Box and use an emulator (new release that hasn't happened yet) that supports it and you're good?

Stupid Question #2:
2 player with 1 GP2X and 1 USB gamepad - I assume this essentially won't happen because what emulator or game will code-in support? It would still rock because most emulated games don't assume a LAN, they assume one console is being used with one TV. Viewing angle might be an issue?

Edit: Stupid Question #3:
Duh, would Stupid Question #2 work without a BoB on an Mk2 (that can power meager eaters)? An Mk1?

Personally, I would have preferred a standard 20-pin ARM-standard JTAG header, as I already have USB JTAG equipment.
The standard 20-pin header would be much preferred. I want to be able to use the Optimex cable I bought for this purpose. Besides, it would also take up less space on the board and confuse fewer people.

I am coding all of my games to scan all devices attached to the usb so you can hook your gp2x up to the tv and use two usb joysticks to play them just like a home console. :) (as soon as paeryn gets them working with his hardward sdl)

In the joystick configuration menu you can select what joysticks you want to play with and then save them to a file so it will automatically set them (if plugged in) so you don't have to do the process all over again.

Instant console system!

I have a stupid question too! :p Is the Break Out Box the one that TechFreaks made in that thread? Or is this an alternative breakout box to his?

Um, if you are even asking you aren't stupid, just ignorant. Stupid implies you never learn, ignorant means you just don't know, asking means you wish to know :). Here is what I have:

#1, sure why not, I don't know as anyone would code that, but wouldn't it be simpler to use the serial cable so that we just need patch cord?

#2, you are in luck, Reesy just told me in the DrMD beta 5 v2 thread that he will do USB pad support if he can get USB input from pads working :D. (he fixed 6-button support already and will release it in the next version once he fixes the savegame support)

#3, If you used a simple USB and TV-Out only (as I hope techfreak will show us soon, it should be smaller, cooler and hopefully cheaper) adaptor then the GP2X should be up to 100mA draw on the MK1, more than enough for a simple USB joypad I am sure. Just to clarify the TV-Out that TechFreak is going to be using should look like a headphones plug to those who don't know better, so his BoB should be tiny :).

@slygamer, I know it is badly designed, wait for TechFreaks better ones, this one is too big, too expensive, and has at the same time too much and too little in the way of features. Needs a dock, needs a Video Cinch plug, doesn't need the Jtag, doesn't need the video to be on RCA at all (see this, it is properly designed, input and output and still nearly as small or smaller then this BoB:http://www.neurosaudio.com/store/recorder_details.asp)

I don't know why the Koreans design things so ass-backwards, I wish they would stop.

I really wish the gp2x had a better music player, it might prevent me from buying the Neuros3 when it comes out

hmm, ok. I wish I had money like you.

I guess you could always port an open-source player, it should work fine.

I can't even afford a GP2X right now. I am working on a way to sell my PC and build a stop-gap out of parts in my closet to tide me over.

I can use the money to buy a GP2X, I would game on that instead of the PC, gameplay is where it is.

I just need to get a $30 Via mobo with DDR to use my 256mb ram chip and my Duron 800 (plenty of power for just about everything I do short of gaming).

Hah, I wish I had money too :(
The Neuros3 won't be out for awhile, plenty of time to save some cash up.

Tried just running some binaries from ipodlinux, mostly for shits because it was 3:00AM and everything seems like a good idea. I mean, with 3:00AM logic, it would seem that since ipod runs on ARM9 and GP2x runs on ARM9 that since they were both running linux, it should be binary compatible? Right? Was a no-go (surprise surprise), and I haven't built a JTAG cable yet to check the output (I'm guessing it's missing some important libs or something). Although I guess I could telnet in and see what I can see...
Anways, I was going to say that yes, porting a media player shouldn't be hard as there are things like ipodlinux and rockbox, but I haven't had time to look @ anything as my last final was just today :(
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FINALS ARE OVER!! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Edit: Damn, I must be tired, sentences were missing whole sections :p

So TechFreak is still going ahead with his own BoB? Last I saw about his effort was that GPH had combined it into their own and boards were going to manufacture on May 20. Since then, the silence has been deafening.

I would still prefer the higher quality S-Video output on real plugs instead of lower quality composite video on a 3.5mm jack.

The last two pages in the "BoB finished product" topic are about TechFreaks new portable BoB, he writes small so nobody has noticed :).

I am sure an S-Video can be incorporated into the thing, but for ease and portability nothing beats 3.5mm video, a simple pin would add the chroma.

I beg to differ, I feel the Jtag is very necessary.

Ive got that cable from my digital camera that techfreak is going to use on the mini breakout box. I really think its much better then the current cables Im using.

Yes I agree that it is necessary for developers, but they could put in a small 20-pin header on the developer board, no need for Parallel D-25 on everyones' board, 80% of us will never need it. (to clarify: the developer board from GPH differs only in that it has no plastic shell, AFAIK)

That is why I suggested it to him, he thanked me for the idea, he said it would solve some of the space and layout problems they were having :). I had the idea that the headphones plug should have been video as well to start with last November, you can check my previous posts for proof :p.

It would only need another 1-pin connector for the chroma signal to make it fully S-Video compliant :). I am spoiled by my German-engineered Jetta and Rabbit GTi though :), darn Germans make it look too easy to be geniuses.
