also the readme files arent that clear for a first time GP user....

maybe just a good example could help me get started

can you explain what youre doing...for say...one certain game that doesnt work. Then i could understand a little better....

And as a first time user i highly reccomend going to http://archive.gp2x.de and downloading the (unofficial) GP2X user guide by Guyfawkes.

You cant use master system roms in a megadrive emulator :p im pretty sure sms isnt a sega rom heh.

You need .Bin or .Smd roms usually roms that are megadrive come in .Bin

If it was ordered from GBAX, then no it does not work on the GP2X ( well not for me anyway).

Weird hehe. Well try using xvid, every xvid I tried works.

I, myself havent tried neo geo yet. Been too busy with narcissu and catching up to my bro on shining force 2 for drmd.

Someone should be able to help you eventually.

It shouldn't matter what firmware you are running athe moment, otherwise no-one would be running anything. I was running 1.0 firmware up until two days ago because I couldn't upgrade until Robster released his upgrade tool. I only upgraded to get support for 2GB SD card.

A couple of helpful links for you, these are old but revelent.

This will get you up and running in quake & hexen

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=22062&hl=

Quake has a few bugs including some crashes that can be avoided just have a look at this linik for current developments

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=22277&hl=

And the avi's I play back I have encoded myself using DIVX 5.2 128kbps CBR MP3 with zero playback problems.

Another old post of mine from the 6.12.05, I haven't edited it but it will get you up and running just remember that the concept is the same for Metal Slug as I talk about Metal Slug 2.

Re NK's emulators, I keep all three emulators separate from one another. That way I can enjoy all three versions of my skins without having to do any switching.

SD Card\nesgp2x\nesgp2x.gpe
..........................\roms
..........................\save
..........................\skin0\filer_nes.png
...................................\folder.png
...................................\game.png
...................................\loading.png
...................................\zipped.png

SD Card\snesgp2x\snesgp2x.gpe
...........................\roms
...........................\save
...........................\skin0\filer_snes.png
....................................\folder.png
....................................\game.png
....................................\loading.png
....................................\zipped.png

SD Card\NeoCD2\memcard.bin
.........................\neocd.bin
.........................\neocdgp2x.gpe
.........................\ng-lo.rom
.........................\patch.prg
.........................\startup.bin
.........................\Games
.........................\save
.........................\skin0\filer.png
..................................\folder.png
..................................\game.png
..................................\loading.png
..................................\zipped.png

You need a skin for the all the above emulators and the NeoGeoCD emulator doesn't have a dedicated skin packaged with it. You can get mine from the archive though.

http://www.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,50,944

The rom which you have said you have downloaded sounds like it will contain an .iso disc image and several .mp3s. If it does follow this example I gave someone else last week it talks about Metal Slug, but the process is the same.

If you have a Metal Slug 2.iso you need to extract the files from that archive as in it's current format it won't run. The easiest way is to use Winrar. If you have it installed just right click on the Metal Slug 2.iso and select open. Left click and drag so that all the files are selected, press ALT + E and select ok. You will then get a file folder that contains the uncompressed game data. To zip it up open the folder, left click and drag highlighting all the files, right click and select add to archive, change the archive format to .zip. You have now successfully made a .zip game file that will run in the emu. If you have MP3's as well you don't need to do anything special to them if they are name Metal Slug 02 02 through to Metal Slug 02 20 inclusive. You just make a file folder called NeoCD.mp3 and drop them into it.

Putting the files on your SD card.

Here is one way of doing it.

SD Card\NeoCD2\memcard.bin
.........................\neocd.bin
.........................\neocdgp2x.gpe
.........................\ng-lo.rom
.........................\patch.prg
.........................\startup.bin
.........................\save
.........................\skin0\filer.png
..................................\folder.png
..................................\game.png
..................................\loading.png
..................................\zipped.png
.........................\Games\Metal Slug 2<-This is a file folder you need to make
.......................................................\Metal Slug 2.zip
.......................................................\NeoCD.mp3<-This is a file folder you need to make
..........................................................................\Metal Slug 02 02.mp3 etc through to Metal Slug 02 20.mp3

Go to Game on your GP2X
Select SD Memory Card
Select NeoCD2 folder
Select neocdgp2x.gp3...wait.
Select Games folder
Select Metal Slug 2 folder
Select Metal Slug 2.zip

Press B and the game will load, the music starts in the character selection screen.

And one final mention, not all games play their respective .mp3's in the background at the moment.

The games that I know will are:

Aero Fighters 2
Aero Fighters 3
Metal Slug
Metal Slug 2
Neo Turf Masters
Pulstar

Also get tilematch and spout two great homebrew games, you will become addicted to one or both of them. :D

DrMDx you need to have your roms in the following location.

SD card\roms
.....................\megadrive

They can be zipped to save space. Just perform a scan when you start the emulator and all the available games will be listed. You don't need to rename them to run them. :)

I hope this little reply helps. I am rushing as I have yet to open my presents and have been called twice to come and open them.

Have fun and enjoy.

Merry Christmas. B)
