I bought a can of metallic blue plastikote today, and tomorrow i'm gonna try and recolour my gp32.
I'm either gonna muff it up terribly, or it's gonna look quite nice.

Pics come asap.

But first, a few questions.

Firstly does anyone know if i'll need to primer the shell before i spray it?
Also, does anyone have any tips for application?

Primer before Plastikote? No idea... but ALWAYS primer before normal painting.

As for a TIP; make sure you paint in a room with little to no dust, and be sure not to disturb any dust while/after painting.

Good Luck, can't wait to see the pics.

EDIT: DCG beat me... DCG ever have any chipping problems?

Ugh, don't. I painted mine and while it looked really nice at first and I liked the colors, the smell took about a year to go away. It also never felt right to hold again and the buttons L/R buttons would sometimes stick a little bit because of the extra thickness the paint put on them. I recently got ahold of a whole spare case and am happy to get rid of the painted one.

Thanks for the advice IW, but i'm gonna do it anyway.
I'm gonna do it outside, no dust there right?
Wish i'd picked up another colour for the buttons and screen cover.

Unfortunately it's a flu, so i'm gonna need to warm up the ol' soldering iron.

i recently sprayed a mini fridge with plastikote, some things i found:

i would never want to do it in the house, it smells lots.

it takes longer to dry than it suggests - don't poke it, it leaves horrid fingerprints

spraying outside meant a lot of the spray just flew away in the wind, find somewhere sheltered

yes there are bits of dust/leaves etc outside, the top surface seemed to collect most where stuff had fallen on it

do a few very light coats of paint - if you spray for too long in one go (couple of seconds on a small area) you suddenly get drips forming. patience!

other than that i was quite pleased with the even finish it gives, good luck! oh, i didn't use primer on on the whole it was ok, some small areas didn't want to take the paint, but i think it was probably masking tape residue or grease etc, make sure its cleaned thoroughly

Well saintdragn could do it, and he was 13.

So i painted it, broke a few wires, gonna solder it back together. I did muff it up, but in what I feel was a rather nice way.

I painted the front, but couldn't manage a even coating, but i think it looks quite nice, kinda like a Neo Geo Pocket Colour, the camo blue one. Should I wait till dry and put on another coat?

I did the back, but unfortunately, it wasn't entirely dried off from the little wash I gave it, and in two places, the paint did not apply.

Anyway, I'm kinda happy with it, but should I put on another coat?

You're just jealous :p.

It is not as bad as the pics dictate.

Well, I finished it, gave it a new coat, and popped it back together and thought you lot might like to see. I like it, personally, and now the colour is all even. the cool thing is that the gp32 kept it's original texture, and is not shiny at all. One annoyng thing though, is that i took of the label on the back, intending to restick it later, but it disappeared. Oh well, here is the pic, sorry about quality.

Wish i'd got a silver for the buttons and stuff though. I'll do that some other time.

As long as it came out even and you're happy with it, that's all that matters :) I'm surprised that it kept its original matte texture, good job on that! Now watch out for them chips!

:p . Im just messin with ya. Nice job with the blue, that was supposed to be my original BLU+ color but I changed it to the red/black the last second. If your happy, then I say you did a good job :)

DCGM, I realy like the dark red w/ black framework paint job. It looks complete.
