Hi,

GemRB 0.8.0 fails top launch BG1 on SUperZaxxon 1.60. I've followed the tutorial (http://boards.openpandora.org/topic/10136-gemrb-how-to-install-bg-and-co-my-guide/page-2#entry207489), and patched with widescreen and TWM Gui my GoG BG1.

Here's my GemRB.log :

[Core]: GemRB Core Initialization...

[Core]: Initializing Video Driver...

[Core]: Initializing Search Path...

[ResourceManager/WARNING]: Invalid path given: ./bg1/portraits (Portraits)

[ResourceManager/WARNING]: Invalid path given: ./bg1/CD6/data (CD6/data)

[ResourceManager/WARNING]: Invalid path given: ./bg1/data/CD6/data (CD6/data)

[Core]: Initializing KEY Importer...

[KEYImporter]: Opening ./bg1/chitin.key...

[KEYImporter]: Checking file type...

[KEYImporter]: Reading Resources...

[KEYImporter]: BIF Files Count: 159 (Starting at 24 Bytes)

[KEYImporter]: RES Count: 16694 (Starting at 4780 Bytes)

[KEYImporter]: Resources Loaded...

[Core]: Initializing GUI Script Engine...

[Core/FATAL]: Missing GUI Script Engine.

[Main]: Press enter to continue...

I'm puzzled... I suppose this engine should come with the PND?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Does it work if you don't apply any of the patches you mentioned ?

Isn't the widescreen modification supposed to go in a bg1w folder and launched with that option on the game selection menu when starting?

Nope, data files go to bg1 folder, bg1w is just a different config pointing to the same folder.

I can confirm that Gemrb simply doesn't load. I get the same error on superzaxxon.

I've tried EVERYTHING, every configuration file edit and possible reorg of the data. I think a path within the PND, which I really don't know how to edit, is broken with the latest OS.

Bummed, because this was a game I was hoping to finally play through on pandora, but I'm guessing it'll be an easy fix whenever someone who knows what they're doing takes a look.

I'm running bg1 fine on my Pandora with the latest SuperZaxxon and all online updates. Although I haven't applied the widescreen "fix" that everyone has trouble with.

Directory listing, basically dumped everything from the PC install into the gemrb/bg1 folder shown in the spoiler tags.

Screenshot-bg1.png

my bg1 setup uses this for the Paths.

Code:
GamePath=./bg1
CD1=./bg1/Data
CD2=./bg1
CD3=./bg1
CD4=./bg1
CD5=./bg1

Would you please be kind enough to post your full bg1.cfg file and your gemrb.log? I get the same result as the OP regardless of game, ws patched or not, etc.

My CFG file is now identical, I really don't know why it's not working. I'm using the non-Git 8.0 build of GemRB (didn't work with the Git build either, though I haven't tried earlier builds). For whatever reason, it is unable to find the GUIScripts files that are clearly in the PND.

Thanks for posting your details though!

Hi! Same thing for me unfortunately. Looking at the said scripts, they seem to be Python scripts. As I remember Python  was upgraded on SuperZaxxon 1.60 so it might be a lead. I PM'd foft, the package maintainer, but no answer so far.

A shame really, I used to play GemRB just fine on my classic Pandora...

Did you use the updater or did you flash? I did a full flash when I got my 1Ghz. Not sure though.

1.60 comes with Python 2.7 (cf. official thread), could you please check which version you have?

Ok then, my hypothesis is probably wrong... Which GemRB version are you running?

GemRB 0.8.0,  although 0.7.0 works just as well.

I'm less linux savvy than most here but it's clear to me that the program is finding other paths; for whatever reason, it's looking somewhere incorrect for the gui scripts files, no matter what's prescribed in the cfg.

The pathing is peculiar for me. "./" is a non absolute path, but sometimes it's referring to what's on the sd card, and sometimes what's in the PND.

Sigh.

^ The PND system does a join of the application's appdata directory on the SD card and the contents of the PND when mounted.

Just a totally wild guess:Did you try a "fresh start" with BG, meaning without a appdata dir ? Maybe its some old config that makes things work ?

I'll try a fresh start on my Rebirth unit later today after work as I don't want to ruin what I have working already on my 1Ghz.

Trashy, if you're still able to troubleshoot this, there are only two other variables I can think to check.

You're using the GOG version of BG1, correct? (Seems to be the case from your folder screen grab). Was it downloaded recently? I wonder if they've changed any files.

Also, since my gemrb.log (which appears in the bg1 folder) matches the OP's, I'd be curious to know what yours says?

I've got a business trip coming up and I'm really hoping my looooong flights can sport some compact CRPG lovin.

Thanks man.
