"Sony China Ltd has suspended sales of several compact cameras after they failed quality tests carried out by China's National Camera Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, according to a report by Interfax China. Nine Sony cameras were selected for inspection and six failed. The affected cameras are the DSC-H1, DSC-L1, DSC-P200, DSC-W7, DSC-W5 and DSC-S90. Chinese consumers who purchased these cameras can return them to Sony for a refund. There were also 13 cameras from other manufacturers that failed quality tests."

As their dominance in video gaming market, Sony picked up 6 out of 13 digital camera models that failed the test.

If you have recently purchased Sony Digital Camera, you may want to give Sony a call.

It gets better :)

Why you get to post such garbage on these boards is beyond me. Obviously you're seriously lacking in your vocabulary and the moderators here aren't doing their job.

I have to agree with this one.

are you kidding me? I bought an expensive camera with my hard earned money and it may be broken? thats madness!

Plus is was a gift!

edit: well i appologize for my tone. As you can tell i was a bit pissed off

again, never had a problem with Sony products. Got a Sony TV, DVD player, my original PS2 from when they were released, PSP, all working fine without problem.

Anything electrical, mechanical, has the possibility to fail, regardless of how well made the item is, granted some companies are better than other, but NO company has a 0% fail rate on any of their product. All you hear about is the negative. If Sony made 10,000,000 cameras and 100 broke, you always hear about how shitty they are but yet you almost have a better chance hitting a cash 5 lotto than getting a broken camera.

I'm not a Sony fanboy by any means, but jesus, cut them a break for the most part, you have a much much better chance getting a good item than a broke or doa item. And looking at those articles, it doesn't tell you why they were suspended other than "didn't meet quality standards" doesn't specify if they fell apart on contact or anything like that so it might've been something dumb like the batteries died after 30mins of use

And, somehow Sony's product happens to be vast majority of products with problem, while most other products from other manufactures did just fine, huh. What is your defence against the charge that Sony tried to bribe press not to report this news? I think, if it was unfair for Sony, Sony wouldn't hesitate to fight to clear their name rather than buynig their way into it, would they? BTW battery dying after 30mins of use sounds pretty bad too me; I'll return the product if it happens to me.

i'm not defending anything, i'm just saying, some companies are worse than others, Yes sony has some crappy products but not all of them are bad. If your going to bash sony for having some stuff that breaks than bash every other company out there as well, don't just focus on Sony, which everybody does. I'm sure Panasonic, Phillips, Magnavox, Fujifilms, all have product that have had some defective units, but because their not sony you don't hear about it. God people need to get over it. If you don't like Sony, don't buy their products, its that easy.

well my mom's camera seems to work great.

I have yet to have a problem with a Sony product, with the exception of a 4 year old ps2 (which sony repaired for free when I spoke to howard Stringer B) )

Yes, every company have their share of quality control issues, although Sony has unhealthly higher number than the others. No other companies you've mentioned had as many as 6 models that failed that test among their products. 6 out of 13 is almost the half of the total, and Sony does not own 50% of digiCam market. To me, it sounds more like Sony is becoming Yugo of electronics.

Actually, I have more problem with Sony trying to cover up their problem by trying to bribe the press than actually having faulty products (the last link). When I called Sony 4 years ago to ask about firmware upgrades of PS2 (while they were under fire due to crappy DVD playback functionality), their representative insisted that firmware updates were merely spelling error fixes on menus! That's the kind of company that I'm talking about. No shame, Sony, no shame.

Really? How (once again) PRAY TELL do you know this? the whole point is we dont hear about it b/c they aren't sony. I guarantee these companies have had some factory mishaps and released faulty products. Sorry codeninja, but your wrong. Sony's a sucker for the crappy press attention

My original post with 3 links are my proofs that they have more problems than others. Please, read them before let your rear end start talking. It's not like sony has some special status or something. They're just another electronics company with lots of quality control issues, more so than usual. You can ignore the facts, but won't be able to alter the facts.
