It all depends on what you want really, pacificas can be picked up for about 250 (you were looking at a 150 budget) but you can get epiphones for cheaper and IMO theyre nicer guitars (depending on what model you get, and the set-up job).
The thing with epiphones is that the bridge saddles need to be turned round on some of the strings to get them to actually tune properly, straight from the factory they wont do this meaning if you have no knowledge of guitars its gonna make a pretty hard instrument to start off with without some sort of prior set-up.
I really recomend you to go down to your local music shop and try some out in your price range, if you have a specialist guitar shop thats even better as they will know the instrument like the back of their hand (hopefully anyway). This gives you a much better idea of what you are buying as you have tried it out and the guitar will normally/should have been set-up already.
If you buy online beware, the instrument you see isn't neccasarily what you get, as you have not tried it out at all its very difficult to say whether you will like what your getting. Buying off ebay is the worst thing to do IMO because they can claim anything and when the guitar arrives the action might be a mile high and the truss might need sorting out. So its up to you but i advise against online buying.
I whole heartedly recomend a squier of some sort theyre cheap, easy to maintain and with a bit of tampering and switchin of the pickups (you dont need to do this if youre just learning) as i did it will rock like a bitch.
The Cheat: If you know you're instument/ the shop you got the squier from did a good job on it then theyre nice. Thing is though is that they're made on the factory line in korea or wherever and some have been put together better than others (maybe closer to the lunch break if youve got a bad one).
So get down to your local guitar shop if your interested in playing, it's the best thing to do as i recomend you try out what youre getting first.
Hope that helps.
