Gamepark Named Newgp32 Xgp ?

of course "playable", lets say ~10fps, psx could be possible, but stop talking allways only about emus, it makes you look stupid.
Well yeah, you could talk about homebrew or whatever, but that doesn't really help judge the power of the thing, because we don't know the power required for a project that doesn't even exist.

When talking about emulators, at least you can say:
SNES - full speed
Mega Drive/Genesis - full speed
Neo Geo - maybe
PSX - not possible

or whatever, and it is more meaningful than trying to judge what homebrew is possible, if we don't know how much power is needed.

"see the stupidity of my comment"? I doubt it somehow, the point being obviously missed by magnus86. All the other things you mentioned can be adequetley emulated by the gp32 including movies, bar the space limitations right now. On the other hand PSX emulation could never possibly become anything near as accomplished as what you will get on the real system, unlike what we have on so many other emulators which are excellent and in most cases mean we have little need for the original systems.

Maybe Magnus should just stick a sock in it before he opens his mouth next time

Oh by the way davec, i said the saturn was a pipe dream not an expectation, after all achetectrially it is possibly the most most notoriously hard platform to build emulators for as it was equally hard to program for. It was mentioned as it was the spiritual successor to the old 2d 16 bit systems unlike the psx which basically killed the 2d market worldwide except in japan.

Whether all those other devices can be replicated by the GP32 or not is irrelavent. Someone just said that he'd like for the new system to be able to emulate PSX... are you telling me that you'd be pissed off if it was able to emulate it well enough to warrant the effort it would take to make a PSX emulator? Whether it'll run at a decent speed or not doesn't matter... the fact remains that there are other devices out there to do everything that the GP32 does, so your view of "you want to play this system? go buy one," applies to every other device the GP32 can take the place of as well... Perhaps you should learn how the hell to read and not insert letters into names where they don't belong before you try to say that I should put a sock in it next time. No, I didn't miss your point, but you obviously missed mine.

... and I've got many reasons to be... So I suppose I fit my alias quite well, wouldn't you say ? And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, go play Chrono Trigger, and you'll see what I mean.

Ahh, shit! I just now noticed that smiley... so either you were serious and just think my bitterness is funny, or you were kidding... probably the latter... Oh well! gp32_console NEW GP32 GOODNESS FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!

what i said, 'magnus' was that we may be expecting too much from it, and the moral was to be happy with what we already have, but i guess you already knew that didn't you? I never said anything derogatory about the psx, just that we should not expect so much from the new gp32.

Maybe you should spend less time on here flaming people and get yourself out more. It's sad that people like you have nothing better to say on a normally friendly, informative and topical forum.

Well, if you consider what I typed flaming, then you did the same thing to the person who said "PSX?" So take your own advice... and what makes you think that I'm not happy with what I already have? The fact that I'd take more if it was possible doesn't mean that I'm not happy with what I have now.

"I'm cool, I put extra letters in someone's name accidentally and then later make it seem like I did it on purpose as some kind of insult when he tells me to learn how to read... woohoo, look at me, I'm retarded!!"

By the way, I never accused you of saying anything bad about the PSX, so what's your point?

Chill Guys, Its gonna be able to emulate most if not all systems from the 16 bit era. Which we all know was the best ever. So it'll be plenty awesome!

Yeah really.. If this thing could emulate everything perfectly up to and including NeoGeo and maybe GBA, was cheaper than the current model, and was backwards compatible with all of the emus we know and love I think we should be thrilled. Fuck PSX and Saturn, the ROMs would be too big anyway. It would be cool if it did those but if not though it is no big deal.

If PSX and Saturn games are held on CDs, and CDs hold up to 700mb, and this new thing will allow you to put entire movies, which also coincidentally take up about 600-700mb of space, on it to watch them, then I fail to see exactly how the roms would be too big...

Besides, I think you're missing my point. I AM thrilled about this new system... I'm still thrilled about the GP32 I currently own. But what's wrong with dreaming and wanting a little more than what's obtainable right now? If nobody ever thought about what could be, we'd have nothing. Everybody would be like "well, we have sticks and leaves... we should be happy with that and not want any more. DAMNIT, THAG, STOP TRYING TO MAKE THE WHEEL!!! WHAT'D I TELL YOU ABOUT BEING HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE!?!?" Allow me to explain myself so that no more confusion arises...

I realize that PSX emulation will not be possible at a decent playing speed even on the new system that's coming out, and I have absolutely no problem with that. But if someone says that he wants to be able to play PSX on a handheld system, that's no reason to get pissed and flame him. I want that too, and I'm sure that if it were possible, the rest of you wouldn't be complaining, now would you? Nobody said "MAKE A PSX EMULATOR, YOU BASTARDS!!!" or anything like that. In fact, I think the person who originally mentioned PSX was actually joking. The reason I chimed in is because whether or not PSX emulation at a decent speed is possible, the fact remains that there are many other machines that the GP32 takes the place of, so the response to saying anything about PSX emulation was extremely stupid... "if you want to play PSX, go buy a PSone with a screen!" You can say the exact same thing about any other system the GP32 emulates. Okay? Do you see what I'm saying now? I realize that right now PSX emulation, even on this new system would be a wasted effort because it won't have enough power, but that doesn't mean I don't ever want PSX emulation. Of course I do... and of course I think it would be cool if it could be done on the current GP32... I realize it's impossible, but it would still be awesome if it wasn't impossible.

Dave didnt mean that the games wouldnt fit on the card, Just that they'd take up most of the card for just one game..
Which is a waste.. When you could have hundreds of 16 bit games taking up the same amount of space...

DaveC, no, they wouldn't be too big. Craig said it could handle a 4gig stick, and you add to that the fact that a lot of PSX games didn't even use the entire storage space of the disc.. and you realize it would fit.

Craig said not to judge the machine by CPU speed alone. We don't know the specs yet, so let's just wait till they come and leave it up to the coders to decide what this thing is capable of. Okay? ;)

I didn't realize my little comment would set off such a flame war...

4 GIG? it would have to be CF then as SD cards are 2 gig max right? But I thought it was deduced that it would have SD because of cost.

Anyway we will see as this is all speculation. Who knows.

No it wouldn't I would prefer to have 1 disc of say FFVII than hundreds of megadrive games.
Especially since I would still have room on the card for some of my favourite megadrive games.

Even if all it held was 1 gig... think about it. 1 gigabyte is approximately 1 thousand megabytes. 1 disc holds no more than 700mb. So let's assume that a game like... Ehrgeiz, Brave Fencer Musashi, or Tobal 2(either one of those would work, they're all 3 good squaresoft games, but i'd take the latter two over ehrgeiz) fills up a disc entirely. In other words, it takes up 700mb. That still leaves about another 300mb, which is more than twice as much as the 128mb smart media card currently in my GP32 holds. Now consider this... I have on that 128mb card emulators for... NES, SNES, Gameboy/gbc and Genesis, plus about 30 NES games, 5 SNES games, 4-6 gameboy games, 5-7 Genesis games... Not a whole lot, if you really think about it, but definitely enough for me. There are a few SNES games I'd like to have but are for some reason incompatible with OSNES9XGP. They just won't load. Some of them don't even work with ZSNES on my computer... and I don't know of a great deal of good games for either the genesis or SNES anyway... the same goes for gameboy. Most of my gaming was done on the NES, which is why I have so many more NES games than games for any other system... now in addition to all the emulators and games, I also have about 4 or 5 Sealab 2021 episodes, 6 or 7 MP3s, an NSF player with at least 20 .nsf files(NES music files, not midis, not MP3s, but the original music from the games), an MP3 player, and GPCinema(patched version that's supposed to work on any firmware/launcher). The card still isn't quite full. I have between 1 and 5 megabytes of space left, but I don't know what else to put on it. Now consider having Brave Fencer Musashi, all the crap I already have, plus extra space for more than 1 more time as much as what I already have... and that's only about 1 gigabyte... just imagine 2 or even 4... With 4 gigabytes, you could have 5 PSX games which would still leave you with at least 200mb(keep in mind a gigabyte is not exactly 1000mb for some odd reason. It's 9XX.XXXXmb). If it could emulate PSX, that would be friggin' awesome because it wouldn't take away from anything I already have on my smart media card. Just think about that. I'm not gonna be dissapointed if it can't emulate PSX, but if it can, I'll be extatic.

SD are 2gig max at the moment, but it won't be too long before larger cards start to appear. Also it doesn't have to just have one card slot. Would be very nice if it had 2 like the Zodiac (very handy for managing files between lots of different cards).

As for psx emulation - to find out if it can/can't be done take a look at the pocket pc emu (haven't done myself so I don't know how well it works). It a safe bet that the new gp will be of a similar spec to current pda's (around 300-400mhz, maybe higher if we're lucky but I'd be suprised if it was lower, hopefully at least 32mb ram, sd card) so you can also assume that a psx emu will perform at about the same level (not taking into account any special hardware a new gp may have). Don't know what type of pocket pc's people use for the psx emu though as there are some 600mhz models around these days, so take that into account if you read any reviews of the emu.

Nice point Shinneri.. It might be plausible...
Perhaps LDchen might port fpse to gameparks new system...
Not counting on it, but it'd be cool...
But even without it, I'd be emensely pleased..

Sorry for all the crazy speculation...

But in a Pocket PC you have some of your processing power being eaten by Windows CE too, don't you?

Not much, as I was told... Though, I assumed it eats about 99% of any power. ;)
