Sorry if this has been said already but I did a quick search and found nothing.

Is it possible to playback FLV video files?

The included mplayer should play them, but you might need to install the codec pack first.

It does, I've been trying it. All the videos work windowed and fullscreen too.

So can you watch live TV stramed from sites like atdhe.net?

I don't know. These were offline files (yeah, I'm one of them). The WIFI was too slow to load web pages for me.

Being able to play standalone flv files doesn't automatically allow you to play flash videos online, as they still require the flash player to access those videos.
However, it's possible to implement per website scripts, to allow you to play the video the flash player points to natively.

Yes, I'm aware that flv doesn't automatically mean flash works, which is why I asked. How easy is this script thing to set up, can't it be done automatically - and how is gnash working out on these site? Thanks for your answer by the way.

Unfortunately, each website stores its videos in different ways, so scripts have to be per website.
Common ones are probably well documented, but rarer ones are less likely to be.
Try installing one of the firefox video downloader extensions, if it works with that, a script could probably be made.
(Of course, there's no guarantee it ever will be for more obscure sites :/)

I highly recommend http://code.google.com/p/get-flash-videos/
That script works for many sites, it will try to find a fitting site in any url you pass to it. I've been flash free for many months now and use it to watch some online videos.
