I was having fun last night rummaging around in /usr/bin (this is where most Linux executables live).

Found the following:

A mod (music) player
Some tools for interfacing with an Ipod Touch
Screen Magnifier (is this in the XFCE menu? I didn't notice it)
QT Demos (lots of application demos for QT/KDE)
Root versions of Nano and Vi (I think this is what they are)
Screen dumper utility (for screenshots)
The shuff utility to randomise a list of text (shuffled playlists here I come!)
Executables for Ubuntu Netbook Launcher and pmenu (but I don't think the full programs are here)
A VNC viewer
A program to dump video from FLV files

Oh, and if anyone wants a lighter experience than XFCE: Just switch to minimenu and load up a terminal, from there you can launch programs and alt-tab between them. Very cool!

Edit: Yay! Just installed Htop and Midnight Commander (screw you Thunar!).

Just found all the Omap3 OpenlglES demos!

Check out /usr/bin/SGX/demos/Raw

Also, one of the QT demos is a full fledged text editor with html support (tables/images/lists).

It's at /usr/bin/qt4/demos/textedit

How do you get out of the SGX demos, besides restarting the Pandora? :( Would be handy to know, so I can do it with mupen64plus too.

Press 'Q'

It was the first thing I tried

Dunno about mupen64plus, not played with it yet.

Seems like some stuff that may be worth stripping from the next firmware to make room for expansion. At least the demos. They're probably available as packages separately anyway.

They are available as separate packages, in fact .. and yes, they could be stripped. In fact there are a lot of things that can be stripped to make way for having the native compiler onboard, by default, from the factory ..

:)

so? what are you waiting for? :p do it! do it! do it NOW ......... gawd....wish I wasn't so far down the list :( , come ON Craig!, no breakfast for you!, get in that hall and start building :D ;)

Running the demos from a terminal, makes Q work ;)

Makes sense now; I was navigating about in Midnight Commander.

Pmenu runs! It crashes when you switch tabs though.

Having the compiler on there by default isn't really a great idea, either. Only a few people will likely use it and it's also just a quick package install, but not really necessary for basic end-user functionality. As for what to fill the space with? No idea, but good to leave some kind of free space just in case, for potentially larger future versions of existing packages and more functionality to the existing ones.

Ooooh. QT form designer!

The ipod touch based programs seem to have gone now (hotfix 2! How dare you!).

Same goes for the megs and megs of desktop wallpapers, but I'd rather have the compiler over the wallpapers, any day .. even if one person doesn't use it, the presence of the compiler onboard makes it much more viable for other people, further down the line, to find a use for the Pandora. Its a no-loss inclusion, in my opinion - if its onboard, those who use it will use it for the greater good, while those who ignore it will also benefit from having it included by default, since it makes development a lot simpler for a lot more people ..

But what if we get into the mentality of asking users to compile source? It happens all the time in Linux land!

I agree with Topor, but I can see how people would oppose it.

I grew up with computers who OS was a Basic prompt. B)
