OK, i tried to upgrade to v2, but i followed instructions on the global website that told me when i see the upgrade screen to switch off after 15 seconds. having done so i now have a very colourfull screen but no boot from my gp2x. so, what i think is that it's bricked. :(

I remember finding a unbricking program on this site a while back, anybody got any ideas where this is and will it work on v2 upgrade fails. if not can anybody suggest anything to get my gp2x back. :)

Ta. c17.

Now i have almost confirmed that i have bricked my GP2x, is there anybody that i can send it to to unbrick it from a nominal charge? or is there another way to fix it, Bearing in mind i am using MacOS so i waould need compatible software!

Thanx to all that reply, c17!

If you bought it from gbax or ED's site, then they'll reflash it for you for a small charge. If you explain to them it happened whilst attempting to upgrade to 2.0, they *may* even do it for little more than postage :) (No guarantees mind)

No they won't - my week old GP2X is in the same state as c17's. GBAX referred me to Evildragon, and I'm awaiting a reply from him (hopefully).

only a jtag cable can help you in that state (trashed uboot).
where did you buy?

Ya, unless you get to the gp2x screen.

Seeing as its actualyl in the GPH instructions I think it should be done for free. THey literally tell you that if you have a certain previous firmware that you must restart the GP2x in 15 seconds when infact I think 15 minutes is a more safer time to restart it as when it cannot auto restart.

[quote name='GP2x.com']
* In the case of upgrading firmware version from 1.4.0 to 2.0.0.

- All the 9 files in firmware should be copied into your SD card
insert it in GP2X,
- Swich off after inserting SD card into your GP2X and swich on
again, and you will see a updating screen.
- Once the updating screen appears,
pease, wait for 15 seconds and then, swich off your GP2X
again.
- Once you complete all the process guided above,
your GP2X is ready to start upgrading firmware V.2

When you get to the green "Loading..." screen (it should say v2.0.0), THAT'S when you're supposed to restart it, because it'll just freeze on that screen (probably wait 15 seconds after getting to that screen).

GPH clearly there say to strat updating and 15 seconds after restart so it is in no way his fault.

His bricking was caused by GPH and their stupid translations. He obviosly did not know that the should never turn it off while still saying uupdating and GPH websiet says to turn it off after 15 seconds. I believe that he should not be paid to pay everything..

Merged topics.

Well, updating is NEVER covered by standard warentee, not if you do a bios upgrade to your pc, not when you do one to your psp.
But i agree, it really sucks for him, but its not like he haves to pay much to get it repaired.
ED/gp2x.de do reflash/repair ALL gp2x's in Europe, but usaly the retailers should send them to him, not you.
Reflashing will cost you 10€ if you didn't buy from gp2x.de, if you bought from them its free.

I have exactly the same problem, as followed all the instructions to the letter. Used a AC charger and a compatable SD card but ended up with a bricked unit. Phoned gp2x.co.uk who have also refered my to Evil Dragon, so just waiting for a response to my email and I can get it fixed.

Shame it isnt covered by warranty, but suppose its live.

all was going well and my phone whent off during F/W upgrade (housephone!?!?) crashed the gp2x (which was resting on it) no it crashes on the green screen.

did everything you said and they told me the same thing.

note: funnily enough as soon as it crashed the phone stop ringing and there was no number

did you try to put the firmware upgrade files and turn the gp2x on holding start and select?

I've tried that, now get a white screen that slowly turns into vertical coloured lines on a black background.

As long as you are waiting around for a reply, why don't you try reformating the SD card (assuming you have a cheap card reader) and try it again. All you have to loose is time, and I think it might be worth a shot, H.G.
