My guess is because it's a slower processor booting into an essentially full desktop environment. My older laptop takes about 2 to 3 minutes to boot into a fully-operational XP (when I can finally start using programs).
As many have mentioned, it's more than likely you won't boot up like that very often, and rather will just go into and out of standby instead.
