is there a way to hide folders so they arent visible on the gp2x when browsing? (hidden attribute doesnt work) since i like to keep all teh gpe files in one folder for browsing isntead of having to go into a load of sub folders and such

or is there a way to show GPU files on the games menu?

Rename them to GPE

Not sure, had the same thought the other day. In linux starting a directory or file with a period marks it as hidden so give it a try.

The naming convention on the gp2x is just that, a naming convention, if you want your utility to show up in the games list name it <name>.gpe instead of <name>.gpu it executes the same way in either menu.

hope that helps.

ah, thanks (thought the gpe format was an executable format and gpu was for scripts)

though for the folders using a . wont that stop them working when a probem explicitly reqires a specific folder location?

damn windows doesnt let you name a folder with a . will hae to try renaming from command line

just tried it and doesnt work

hopefully a firmware patch can do something so you can make folders and files hidden from just the menu / browser

You can create scripts to launch the gpe-files and put most games and emulators in subfolders in one folder. This way you would ahve just one folder and a number of scripts acting like shortcuts.
Unfortunately this doesn't work for some emulators: you can put drmd in a different folder but it will create two new folders (roms and drmd) in the root of your sd-card. Some other emulators need (or needed, I'm not 100% up-to-date) to be in that root and/or need romfolders there.
Creating scripts works great if all games, apps and emus can be moved to any folder and use rompaths within their own folder or let you change the rompath.

Why would you like to make folders invisible from.... yourself?

for cleaner browsing prefereabley i'd like everything to be in a sub folder on the sd card however not possible since a lot most emus need to be on root so i'd like to hide them and any data folders

though only for media menus such as games videos music and such not from the file browser/manager

plus i let my friends at university have a shot on it aswell

The gnu boy did the . thing infront of its save files folder, but it doesnt get hidden, and it never saves, so its just a crappy waste of creating a folder, the rest of the emulator is great though.

When you click on games you only want to see the files you can launch, you don't want to scroll through a list of folders first. Just think what your start menu on your computer would look like if it showed all the folders on your computer.

So you're saying.... that you want something like Mocca? Then USE IT!
No, that's what you are saying. I do not want to use a different launcher: if drmd would use relative paths I would have just one folder in the SD root and a set of scripts to launch all the games and emulators I use (now I have three folders, not perfect but it will do)

I want to use the default launcher and customise it so it's to my liking, just like you do with your computers desktop and start menu. Suggesting a different launcher may be an option but it's not the answer to the question.

Also: maybe next time you make a 'suggestion' you could try to make it look like one instead of a command or correction.

Well, I understand you can't have only one folder on your SD card due to DrMDx. But Reesy announced some time ago that he was working on a file browser for it so that it wouldn't NEED that folder, so there's no need to complain about it since he's already addressing it. Also, you CAN in fact run most programs from one folder, I don't think I could name one other than zLauncher that requires root. (That doesn't mean I guarantee that there are NONE that DO require root, I just don't know of any)

That was not a complaint, just stating a fact and using drmd as an example.

If you read my post it already says 'need or needed' and that I am not up-to-date. There is no need to defend anyone, nobody was attacked. The original thread was about hiding folders and I responded with the solution I personally use for this.
