I once heard here that there is a hacked FF3 rom with FF7 sprites and the FF7 story. I was excited to hear that but I cant find it anywhere does anyone know if this even exists in the first place???

Never heard of it.
And IMO it's impossible... it would mean recreating the whole world and story... would be easier to create such game from the scratch instead of hacking the rom.

And only hacking the graphics is cheap ;)

Edit:
Anyways, you'll find it here... but only 35% complete:

So it does exist then just not completed. I wonder if there are games like this but done to the fullest like everything changed but you said its impossible? Thank you very much for finding this for me very much appreciated. :D

Wouldnt it be cool tho if it was completed!! :)
I love FF3 imagine that combat system with FF7 characters and FF7 storyline :D
I prefer a good 2d rpg over a 3d one!! B)

A hacked ff3 rom would totally butcher ff7's story, graphics, music, and genius. Final Fantasy 7 should be left alone, it's a masterpiece itself.

Im just a fan of old school Rpg's I understand what you are saying but It would be cool just to have. It could never replace the PSX FF7 just pay tribute
to it. If you think that it will turn out horrible then just dont bother with it but I would loove to see a good 2d FF7 done!!!

Maybe I will try to do one in Gigas engine when its complete!!

All my Fav RPg's are 2d!!! and FF3 in #1 B)

Yes FF7 is a masterpiece but a fan made 2d ver would take from it?

The FF7 hack on FF3 is just a straight forward graphics hack so Locke is replaced by Cloud and Terra is replaced with Aeris etc.. Its not bad, but the story is that of FF3.

The best SNES hacks are by far the Mario hacks thanks to Fusoya's Mario Editor called Lunar Magic. If you download the hacks and then apply them to multiple copies of Mario World then voila - 400 new levels of Mario :D Perfect for the drivetime commute (providing someone else is doing the driving!)

Also the graphically retouched version of Seiken Densetsu 3 is also worth playing, colours being a lot sharper etc..

FF3 meaning the American verison? (please we are British, call it FF6 since it was never released as FF3 here)
FF7 would be good using FF6 graphics, it would look much better then with its current dated head ache giving 3D.

I've seen chrono cross using chrono trigger as a base but not ff7 using ff6...

thanks for the hints, I'm gonna check those out :)

(I downloaded that lunarmagic program and fiddled around with but never got to making good levels :))

Don't forget OoT:2D (a 2d conversion of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) ... pointless but fun! Just like this hack. I know I'm gonna download it :)

Umm... Ocarina of Time 2D is no hack, it's a completely self-coded engine...
Still takes a while until it's finished, I guess... and I am eagerly awaiting it :)

EvilDragon, I know. The engine was made with GameMaker.

I was replying to posts like "A hacked ff3 rom would totally butcher ff7's story, graphics, music, and genius. Final Fantasy 7 should be left alone, it's a masterpiece itself." - transferring games from 3D to 2D can be done and be just as fun if not more (due to the nostalgia value and general neatness)

Hacking FF3 into FF7 would butcher FF7? What about FF3? It'd be butchery at it's finest.
