There's a difference between using new words to express things that didn't exist or modifying existing words to give a broader or more specific use, and taking an existing and very common word and using it to mean it's exact opposite.
Especially when the expression they're trying to convey already has a perfectly good word, such as when people use "literally" when they mean "figuratively", or "ironic" when they mean "coincidental".
