I have a ton of .atr files and I'd like some suggestions.
My top 5 so far are:(in alphabetical order)

1. 5 card stud
2. mule
3. pitfall
4. river raid
5. xpoker

Thanks

Ballblazer or Ballblaster. Same game different name. Excellent future sport 3d game. I uesd to play it two player with my mates all the time.

Joust. You know... the knights on birds thing.

Rally Speedway. Crap looking but awesome top down scrolling racing game. A little bit like micro machines.

Hard Hat Willy (not to be confused with hard hat mac.) Weird game I can't explain it. Absolutely shite graphics but strangely addictive.

Attack of the mutant camels. Mr Minters masterpiece.

Dropzone. Excellent defender like game but much better. The c64 version is good too but slows up a few hundred thosand point in. The Atari version on the other hand stays fast no matter whats on the screen.

I haven't had the 800 emu on my SMC card for a while but I think most if not all of these worked.

That RZog Plasma thing on the included demo disk! I know it's not a game, but it's very impressive for an atari800.

try out the following aswell:

Henry's House (make sure its the exe version)
Hacker (never completed it yet)
Milk Race
Joe Blade
frogger
Lode Runner
Swat
Centipede
Chop suey
ninja
draconus

I could go on for ages, there are so many worth playing....enjoy the hunt :D

i could never got the atr version to run, it would load so far and then freeze. only exe version works for me.

unless the henrys house atr loading was fixed with the latest releaseof the emu.

The Atari 800 was my first computer. Excellent machine at the time. Anyway I will add a couple of games to the list:

* Great American Cross Country Road Race (excellent driving game)
* Star Raiders (released in 1979!!!! -- excellent, load the keyboard map to use it)
* Las Vegas Casino (you mentioned a card game)
* Boulder Dash II
* Kenny Daglesh Soccer Manager (if you like footie sims)

These are the only good ones I can think of that are not mentioned above.

Also, stay clear of Pothole Pete, it was the first ever game I bought and I never got off the first screen!!!

Thanks again for all the replies, btw,
anyone able to get 5200 roms to work?

I have the 5200 bios rom, and I've selected 5200 as the system,
but the emulator crashes at the startup screen.

I'm using  Atari800 GP32 0.5

Draconus - a great platformer with beautiful chip music
International Karate - a perfect karate simulator
Boulder Dash (any)
Zorro
Journey to planets - childish gfx but a nice adventure/action game
Goonies - quite challenging
Kikstart - funny motorbike simulator

also Preliminary Monty (or Montezuma's Revenge), River Raid, Colony, N.Y.C., ...eh and many others :)

BTW. Atari 800XE was my first computer too, never gotten the guts to sell it...

Do you mean the emulator crashes or "The Atari computer has crashed"? Or its just not accepting input?

Are you sure you selected the correct cartridge type in "Cartridge management"? You need to make sure you get the correct one of 1-chip/2-chip 5200. The ones I tried (asteroids and tempest) are both 1 chip 5200...

Also you need to load the 5200.men keyboard map...

If you still have problems then e-mail me and I can take a look.

Top 5 Atari 800 Games:

Boulder Dash Series
Drop Zone
Donkey Kong
BMX Simulator
One Man And His Droid

Pretty controversial! :p

I will try out PotHole Pete! Anyone got Atari Tennis to work? It seems to load and then go back to that blue screen with me.

Atari 800XL was my first computer, although I was a little young to appreciate it.

I like Blue Max. It's not really agreat game, like most of the others mentioned here, but it is quite fun. For awhile.
