external hd

Sorry to hear your still having a problem.

The wonky HDD of mine now works on windows too and when hooked to the Pandora didn't, then I realised my unpowered HUB has died

Works direct aswell though, so you should be alright if you get an adapter with a supplied Powerblock included.

Heres a few pics so you dont think its a wind-up

The 3 partitions all show up. Damn camera is blurry.

ok but im still not understanding how to provide extra power to them outside of usb, unless a hub provides more then the normal 500mah as this 44 pin pata has no molex or sata connector

Edit: The above item looks just the ticket! Nice find.

Yeah I'm confusing the issue again. My bad. It's weird nothing is happening despite enough power to spin them up but you mentioned the jumpers. You defo need jumpers in place set as master, or these adapters wont recognise the drive, so that is 1 possibility.

As for extra power, you are dead right. We cant add any and thus were hoping Levi was right and it certainly spins up, so I reckon its the jumpers, or if all 2.5" drives are like yours and have no molex port, then I would opt for the HUB I linked as they claim compatibility.

ok so theres a chance my setup could work on pandora? even though its not showing up in windows pc or laptop(w/o external power)

Now if the drive isn't formatted in Windows it's not going to just show up in My Computer..

did you check if the drive shows up in the Disk Management tool?

Start Menu -> Right click on Computer -> Manage -> Storage -> Disk Management.. if Windows sees it, it should be there as a unformatted drive.

nope disk management isnt showing anything. the drive came from the corporation i work for and id say for sure its for formatted with windows, though i could be wrong. ok seriously how the hell does a damn laptop run these fuckers? im about to hook up a reading lamp up to it and see if i can read the damn thing myself

Well if it is just a matter that USB can't power the drive on it's own.. then the link I posted above may work.
