Ok, so my PC went bust some weeks ago. Since then i was using my old but trusty IBM Notebook. But it has neither a DVD nor DVDRW drive, and i really need one. So i got this crazy idea to use the electronics from an external HDD case to connect my PC´s DVDRW drive to my Laptop´s USB. So i plugged everything in, switched on the Laptop and to my great delight, the drive was recognised by Windows XP at startup, it did show up with the correct name (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B) on the list of drives.
But it didn´t read any of the CDs i put into it. I restarted the comp, but that didn´t help either.
So, is there any way of getting this to work? Maybe a custom driver? Bios settings?
