In case nobody knew this already, i just read the European PSPs being released next month will have firmware v2.0 already pre installed, so unless there is a crack between now and then, if you want homebrew and emu, you'd best be importing one.

Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

Join the love in, import now.

Some people are looking at hardware mods, so there's a slight possibility still for european buyers. Still much better to buy a 1.50 JAP or USA PSP whilst you can though, as they will become 2.00 in time.

oh and i just read this yesterday as well, anybody from the US that updated to the Jap v2.0 firmware like i did....your warranty is now voided.

I kind of expected this to be the case with the Euro PSP anyway so it comes as no great shock, it wouldnt make sense for them to incorporate an earlier firmware when 2.0 has been developed.

I am in no great rush to run homebrew and/or emulators when I pick mine up in a few weeks as I expect like most I will be busy using it to play commercial games on.

In time 2.0 will be cracked just like 1.0 and 1.5 then we can all have the best of both worlds (hopefully some of the emulators will be in a more advanced state by then as well).

I bought my PSP simply for homebrew, emu's and hacking my own stuff on :) I've no intention whatsoever to run any commercial games on it.

Anyone else bought there PSP for this reason, or is everyone else going for commercial games?

i bought mine for commercial reasons, i don't have any interest in Neo Geo CD, or Amiga, so the GP32 is still my go to system for emulation and homebrew.

I originally wanted it for the commercial games until I got bored and tried some of the homebrew.. now my PSP rarely has an umd in it...

someones sort of got a eboot to start loadin on v2 already somethiin to do with teh updates folder. So i woudlnt be surprise dif its cracked in the next few months

Yup, but having to have all your homebrew and emu's imitate a firmware update (and as such, you can only have one on the card at a time) doesn't seem fun to me. However, you could always use it to launch some kind of menu system I suppose. We'll have to see if he gets any further than the "PSP" animation. If he does within the next month, no doub't Sony will delay the european release just so they can release it with firmware 2.1

but if Sony just give up, some game companies may decide to look elsewhere for there sales, thinking the Sony is too easy to hack, so they need to make it look like they are doing everything possible to prevent piracy. As well know, shortly after homebrew becomes possible follows piracy.

There´s no way in hell SONY would give up protecting the PSP... the only way to end the race between the crackers and SONY would be a kind of a modchip with bootselector... But i doubt that´s going to happen soon.

This is totaly irrelevant as the percentage of people who have the time/knowhow to actually to download and install pirated games makes up such a small part of the demographic that software developers would be crazy not to develop for what will be a very profitable machine for every publisher.

New Sony Hardware = liscence to print money

You know it, I know it, They know it.

I concur.

I think the games companies "may look elswhere comment" is a scare tactic to make some people feel guilty about piracy. Much like the film industry is losing Millions of Dollars a year crap...from their billions of Dollars of profit.

Yup thats true. I mean i seen a couple of pirate films this year but i dont see how that stopped the film companys makin money coz there is no way id hav ewent to see them at the cinema and there is no way id buy a dvd untill they lower the prices of them.

You bad people.... bill gates is losing many pennies a year from dirty pirates and piracy is terrorism cos downloading something terrorises people without internet to be jealous and sad. piracy is bad. The only way is to stop and even if you do we'll sue you anyhoo cos we're big microsoft and we see all bitches.

Plus homebrew developers are trained by al qaeda.

It aint so bad though, seems microsoft and al qaeda are old friends.
