No, they just changed to a new manufacturer of the LCD and/or LCD driver chip and it screws up the graphics in emulators. That is the only new "feature".

BIOS is as "compatible" as it can be.. just a specific for a certain HW version now. IMHO that's what the BIOS is supposed to do -- hide HW differences and initializon from upper layers (not that I like it now but...)
