I do, but I like House :p (I wonder how many in the US have seen the Black Adder or Jeeves and Wooster?)

On the up side you don't have to pirate Top Gear, is that worth the cost of a TV license?

Besides that I thought the UK was allowing free downloads of its shows, am I right? I would almost deem that worth it.

I get a PBS station here that will show Nova and Discovery programs, pretty good stuff. (unfortunately their interim transmitter has a measly 17.4kw and is 120 miles away, I have the feeling I could receive it fine if there wasn't a mexican station 120miles the other direction at 500kw :(, when an inversion layer happens all I get is half naked latin women gyrating wildly to music played by mustached men, that is only entertaining for a few minutes, then I want to see my show on DNA or Quantum Physics again. )

That is the best and most humourous thing I have read in a very long time

A TV Licence costs £139.50 for colour and £47.00 for black and white.
Can you believe they still have a separate category for B+W?!

Jeeves and Wooster was fantastic, as was Black Adder. Rome was class too. There are some very good quality programs but a lot of dross in between. Fine if you like programmes about buying and doing up houses, food, talent shows and reality tv. At least in days gone by they didn't have 24 hour crud and showed the test card. :D

The BBC shows its programmes on the iplayer through an internet browser and allows downloading that is supposed to be viewable for 7 days ;), you can also listen again to radio which is pretty cool. Channel 4 allows viewing online but you need a nasty piece of software that I would class as 'not very well behaved'! ITV now does Catch Up too, though I haven't tried it.

I don't know Rome, must look it up.

Wow, I didn't realize it was that steep.

What if a show in black and white comes on your color set? What if you turn the color off when they come around and demand that they let you pay the black and white tax :).

Conversely, isn't all the broadcast digital these days? If the tuner is color are you paying the tax on the tuner?

If you are like me and use a PC monitor as a TV or a TV as a PC monitor what then?

I agree it looks silly, but then I live in the US, and look at all the weird crap going on here, nobody is safe from bureaucracy.

I don't get "buying and doing up houses, food, talent shows and reality tv", and I hate nasty software, there are standards for a reason.

I guess you make a lot of good points. I wonder why they can't sell Top Gear in other markets? Maybe people don't get it, I know a few people who wondered why they were poking fun at americans all the time during that florida to new orleans bit they did (they didn't understand that is the point of the show, if Jeremy goes 10 seconds without insulting anybody he is probably dead.)

I absolutely cannot stand Jeremy Clarkson, the boring, repetitive, whiny upper-middle-class tosser.
out of curiosity, what does being upper middle class have to do with being a dick?

Nothing, but it is very easy to be pompous and arrogant when you are.

I am getting a bit sick of Jeremy and his attitude. But I respect him for getting the show where it is and being dumb enough (with his level of driving skill) to flog multi-million dollar cars around like he stole them :D

I mostly stick around for the remote controlled stuff or the fire/explosions/stuff hurled through the air.

I absolutely love when they do the 1,000£ car tests and run into each other/bang open the doors into the other car, sometimes both at once :). That USA segment was hilarious, the gay jokes/running from rednecks, the cow on the roof of the car, the running the truck into a swamp. Faked or not it is pretty brilliant stuff.

I am a trifle disappointed with this season (11), nothing much has happened, although it is pretty tough to top a Robin converted to a space shuttle that actually launches.

I just don't see how the damn show stays on the air, or how it can afford to do these crazy stunts, or get permission for them. That would be a documentary almost as interesting as the show.

Well, thanks, I guess :p

I did like the USA special, that was pretty fantastic.

I wonder when the government will decide that there are now enough PC's in homes that they'll decide that you need a PC license? I know they were thinking about it in 2005.
With the advent of iplayer, it can't be long before it becomes a TV / internet license.Shhhhh! They have spies everywhere!

They're probably reading this and saying "Yes. Good idea. Thanks."

Why do you think iPlayer exists? So they can say that it's a way to receive BBC programming and tax those without a tv.
A few years ago I would have been against scrapping the TVLicense because the beeb offered something different to commercial stations.
Now I'm not so sure <_<
