Just for clarification, what should someone vote if they watch television shows that originally aired on broadcast/cable/satellite but acquires them by other means?

Aside from the recent Euro 2008 games, I found myself watching less and less television altogether, it's all so frustrating and repetitive. Take up reading instead! :)

What is T.V ?.
I think they are those rectangular boxes people have in there living rooms that emit what can only be described as incorrectly completed jigsaw puzzles in random colors. The only decent TV was when it was all analogue.

Don't have one myself, as I find there being very little to watch, and what there is, pauses every 10 minutes for 5 minutes of adverts.

Very enlightening :) , The thing is, I brought a Sharps 37" full hd lcd tv about 6 months ago, Apart from the odd episode of top gear, The thing is either switched off, Or serving as a very expensive but very beautiful PC (or Xbox) monitor, Rather than wasting a good screen or electricity for some drivel they have the cheek to call "T.V".

As for HD  , Anyone for high quality drivel ?.

What annoys me is that they assume everyone has a TV, so everyone should have a TV license. So when you don't have a TV (and thus no license) they seem to find it amusing to constantly knock on your door every few months saying that according to there records, the premises doesn't have a TV license. The statement "I don't have a license because I don't have a TV" they completely ignore unless you invite them in to prove the fact.

I wonder when the government will decide that there are now enough PC's in homes that they'll decide that you need a PC license? I know they were thinking about it in 2005.

With the advent of iplayer, it can't be long before it becomes a TV / internet license.

PS I've never heard of anyone actually having the license people knock on the door. As a student and even when first moved to London in a shared house we never 'quite' got around to getting one - oddly replying back that we didn't have a tv seemed to do the trick, which given the number of houses genuinely without a tv, should have alerted them to come and find us... too lazy I guess.

Maybe they are just more "active" in the West Midlands. I know my brother got the same knock on the door (and he had a TV + license) and after seeing the TV through the front window, they accused him of watching TV without a license, which was illegal blah blah. When he proved otherwise they left him alone - no apologies or anything, just turned around and went.

It would be typical however for the BBC to go "We broadcast on the Internet now too, so you need a license to receive Internet traffic, as it's possible you might be watching some of our broadcast programs."

It's because the fuckers get paid a commission on all the people they catch. It's ridiculous; you're allowed to own a television anyway for games console/dvd purposes, as long as it's not receiving broadcasts, and you're allowed to turn them away to get them off of your property too.

Hang on, are you all saying you need a licence to watch TV in England?
Yes. They will tax anything and everything to spread the tax around into smaller lumps in the hope that you don't realise just how much you are paying.

What a weird country.
Sure is.

The best of it is there is hardly ever anything decent on tv. But it takes you half an hour to check all the digital channels to find out there's nothing on.
