I was just looking at the Pandora and this poped into my head the http://gizmodo.com/175126/bodielobus-ps2-controller-with-trackball

Bodielobus ps2 trackball, I think you have to be innovative like the Nintendo wii:) FPS Third person, games like oni ghost in the shell, tomb raider, solider of fortune, serious sam.

You know a controller can make a game, controller's are so important to the fun factor of a game. you know if I have ever loved a game it has been because of the mechanics in the game.

Thats from 2006, did the company ever produce them? Are you suggesting a trackball for the pandora? (if so its too late)

I'm just saying the thoughts as they come to my head, The BodieLobus got delayed not sure what's happing with it now. But plain and simple analog sticks suck for FPS. but ya know both analog and trackball have their flaws it's about chosen one and going with it. Maybe you will invent new controller and dominate the gaming scene.

I suppose if you could find the parts and hack together a driver for it, you could use the trackball from a Blackberry or something. But they do have a decidedly "clicky" feel to them. Or how about one of these? Surely you could take the parts and hack something together for Pandora: Mini Trackball Finger Mouse

Personally I prefer a mouse to a trackball, but a finger mouse might not be such a bad idea for long airplane rides... maybe not for FPS, tho.
[edit: hmm... seems like some sites' users have given these things excellent reviews, despite a rather weak trigger... might try this on Pandora later]

Oh... and I like atomicthumbs's suggestion. The regular optical version of that mouse is my all-time favorite mouse. I just never had the need to buy the bluetooth version. Maybe Pandora will give me that reason. :D

So you can have a trackball to use with your Pandora (but not built in), and you'll need a driver for it.

You shouldn't need a driver for a standard HID device.

You just made my day. Thank you!

Now where to put it...

You'll need some kind of microcontroller to handle it's I/O, and some way of interfacing that with Pandora. We've got an SPI (or I2C was it? I'm too lazy to look up which) so it shouldn't be a major problem, just a matter of finding a nice, small, easily programmed microcontroller. And, as you said, free space to mount it.

that + one TXB0104 + an ATtiny2313 + some programming and you'll have a serial "mouse" to attach to your pandora's ext port, for a simple example. I have way too much things on my TODO list, but added :p

Just as a general easy to carry controller, this looks kinda cool...

I think I've seen that somewhere before, can't remember where though. Sorry, I couldn't sit through that review, hope it ended up being a good product. Found it on Newegg. Looks like it got mixed reviews but overall they're good.

Unless you're suggesting this as a P2 controller, isn't that kinda defeating the purpose of Pandora? And there's no D-pad on it, just an analog stick. Without a proper D-pad, this is going to be hell for old school emulation.

Here's one that's incredibly similar to that one, except this one has a D-Pad. :)

Oh hey, that's actually the one I remember, not the one with the analog nub. Yeah, this might be great for emulation. Hand that to P2, gaming on the go! Nice.

Yeah I was thinking for 2nd player or occasionally when hooked up to TV (something I can get frustrated with and not worry about damaging the Pandora (LOL).

Was just thinking about the vibration feedback feature. Wonder if any software will support controllers featuring this (especially for ps emulation).
