Anyone know if there are any competitions (like the GBAX 2003 coding competition) for the GP32 in the works? I think this is a good way to spur people to release some stuff. I mean, there doesn't have to be any fancy prices, (maybe some joygp games, accessories or somthing?) but just something that will give us lazy coders a release date to target. :)

Count me in :)

But don't have the comp too soon. I get side tracked far too easily and it's been known for me to take years to finish even the smallest project :)

there will be another contest, the ADIC 2003 which will take place this year.

more news very soon !

How about I do like a 15 day comp, you have 15 days to do your best and i'll have some gp32 goodies as prizes, just a bit of fun really... maybe a coloured gp32 as the top prize?

If you take a look at the scene recently it booming maybe we could hold a really high profile one. It could drum up some intrest in the GP32. Even ask GamePark to get involved. Im sure that a few of our more high profile visitors will spread the word about. (prophet)

If done right it could turn a few heads :D

Ideas.

Diffrent catogries.
Normal users Submit cash via paypal (like the Xbox N64 emulator compitition)
A web site to keep people update. purely for the comp.

If you ask me the bigger the better (show people i.e. game developers how may people are behind the console.)

sounds good (although I couldn't take part :) )

Perhaps a tutorial competition might be a good one? As in rather than simply submitting a program of truly leet quality, its rather a demo and a tutorial of how you did it, and its marked on both quality... I say demo on the basis that its prolly harder to write a reasonably comprehensive tut for an emu or a game. And on the fact that there've been nearly none released for GP32, and I just *know* there's some good demo coders out there :)

Not sure of the feasability (how *do* you spell that?) of that idea, or how it'd go down among dev'rs (I know of 2 definite demo coders out there - doesn't mean there aren't more, but that's not really enough to start a compo on). Plus which it might end up with the entries being rather more simple and les impressive but more accessible for newbie coders, which isn't always the point in doing the things - maybe best to get round with a winner for best demo and best tutorial?

Perhaps if the idea is interesting to anyone, 3 categories for each or something...
Demo:
- Sheer impressiveness, pushing GP32 to limits (or preferably just looking as though it is :) )
- Innovation (any extra tricks in the code)
- Source accessibility (not if its simple, just if its well commented and such)

Tutorial:
- Simplicity/Ease of use
- Functionality (by following it to the letter, who can actually end up producing the same demo - only another dev'r, someone who's just dabbled, or absolutely anyone)
- Presentation (perhaps - not sure about that one...)

Tutorial-wise, you'd have to let them reference other ones or they'd just be too long; a reference to, say, Rico's excellent set would save time and make it more plausible....

What do people think of this as an idea for a compo (not that I could run it, but just another idea on the pile)?

I'd join in a competition, although I can only start coding in about a month (I'm moving house from Wigan to London soon and will have no time at all).

Realtime?

I think Tobriands idea is very good actually..
Write some cool routines and document them well.
Actually i think the documentation is more important than
releasing any code.

Agreed the home brew community needs some inspiring information (more tut's like Rico's) and the wealth of tutorials such a thing would generate would be an amazing aid to the comunity.

OK then, its a deal.

15 days starting from friday the 13th (!), you can enter anything you like. End date will be friday the 27th.

Prizes will be GP32 goodies, SMCs, carry cases, RF-Link, screens etc. Will do my best to get a coloured gp32 to the winner (don't know when we are getting them).

Think simple addictive games if i were you, don't try anything too crazy you only have 15 days!

It does not have to be a game, a demo will do :) i'll try to get a page done for this.

Best get to work!
