CloneKeen2X!

In case anyone here has a GP2X handheld console, I guess I’ll announce it here. This is the initial release of CloneKeen2X, a “Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons” interpreter for GP2X based on CloneKeen (http://clonekeen.sf.net)

Thought I'd make a topic seeing as this has been one of many people's - including myself - great desires from on the go gameage. Keen Rocks!

EDIT: Sorry, forgot the download link:

http://www.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,20,1190 in the archive, with the author's site at http://mudiweb.com/ - the later possibly being preferable, since he says that's the one he's going to keep up to date.

Not to sound dense or anything but where does one buy the original game from anymore? It says we need the original game files but I can't find anything but the shareware episodes.

EDIT: Nevermind, my dumb ass eventually stumbled on this.

LOT of classics in there.

oh my good, they send the game Blake Stone

it was (in my opinion) very bad bad bad game (even it was one of the first pseudo 3d games) comparing it to wolf3d ... this was more than ten years ago

now it is full .xxxx(censored)xxxx.

I liked it pretty much!

Hey thanks alot for this, Commander Keen on the go is fantastic! And episode 1 is the best imo.
Can anyone tell me, if it has sound? What stuff isn`t working besides the savegames?

There doesn't seem to be any way to fire your raygun in this port... B jumps, X and Y both pull out the pogo stick, and A does nothing at all... Am I missing something here?

I can't seem to fire my raygun. Also, it'll be sweet when saves (or rather, being able to load savegames) are implemented. Regardless, kudos to whoever ported this. It's pretty nice already. :)

Hi all, I guess I didn't need to worry about posting this in forums and stuff :D

I've got savestates working now, unfortunately it is not currently in a releasable state because while trying to increase the screen resolution to 320x240 I managed to kill the tile rendering on the worldmap. Also, I'm trying to improve the accuracy of the sound playback, since it isn't very true to the original game at the moment. And lastly, the next release will have a lot of the tile attributes and AIs fixed to be more like the original game... several things that are currently background objects are supposed to be foreground, meeps aren't supposed to be deadly to the touch, etc.

Look for another release hopefully this weekend.

EDIT: In regards to a Commander Keen 4-6 interpreter, I'd love to do that, but no one has really successfully decoded the level file formats for keen 4-6, and ID is still stubbornly holding onto the source for it. *sigh* The closest someone has come is this: http://andy.durdin.net/keen/ and they didn't release many details about it, just that they had done it. I guess I should email them or something... heh.

One more thing before I leave for the night... who wants an option for one-button firing a la Keen 4-6 in the options menu? It could be fairly easily implemented.

Yes, please!

Stellar release this in any case. I was up late last night playing the first Keen. Great, great game.
