Can't Enable Network

I've had my Pandora for a week or two now (yaayy!) and I'm having some problems with wifi. With the pre-installed firmware image I could see and connect to wireless networks, so I hope it's not hardware related (fingers crossed). I reflashed my pandy using the image that includes Hotfix 3, and since then I've installed Hotfix4-beta3 and Hotfix4-final. Now my wifi network doesn't work at all.

I ran the Toggle WiFi script a few times and made sure that the wl1251 kernel module is loaded. Running "ifconfig -a" only shows the "lo" local loopback device. There's no wlan0 and I can't bring it up. I have tried reflashing and I've also booted with root on an SD card using the instructions here. I hope my wireless hardware's not fried... Bluetooth still seems to work though, aren't they on the same chip?

Thanks,
Josh

please output dmesg before and after toggling wifi
Thanks for the reply, sorry it took me so long to come back with this. Here is the output of dmesg after disabling then re-enabling WiFi.

Also, try installing Hotfix 4 twice (just the .pnd, not the full firmware image). Sounds strange, but installing it a second time is solving wifi issues for a number of people.

Run
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/wl1251-init stop
sudo /etc/init.d/wl1251-init start
from a terminal, check if it prints anything interesting.
When done also run 'lsmod' and post the output.

As requested:
Code:
josh-openpandora:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/wl1251-init stop

josh-openpandora:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/wl1251-init start

With the above setup, do 'sudo rmmod board_omap3pandora_wifi', then do 'sudo modprobe board_omap3pandora_wifi' and post dmesg output. There should really be more messages than you posted last time, really strange if there aren't.

I also think it's strange that there are not more messages, I really don't know what's going on here.

Here's some dmesg output after starting and stopping the wl1251-init service:
Code:

At this point I run sudo rmmod board_omap3pandora_wifi, sudo modprobe board_omap3pandora_wifi.

I figured it couldn't hurt to do another reflash, so I went ahead with Alerino's suggestion. I took the out battery out, downloaded the latest flashkit, formatted my SD card, extracted the files to it, waited a little while longer, put the battery in and did the flashing and first boot.

Still no wireless device, dmesg output is still strangely sparse.

last thing i can suggest is downloading the following file - http://files.programandala.net/pandora/tmp/wl1251-modules_1.0-r20.5_omap3-pandora.ipk and sudo opkg install wl1251-modules_1.0-r20.5_omap3-pandora.ipk at the terminal,
Not a good idea, those modules will most likely not load at all on HF4 kernel.

It would look like the wifi module doesn't want to start and talk to OMAP.

Looks like hardware to me. You could try HF3 image if you want (some say HF4 broke wifi for them, I think it's NM issue), but I doubt it will help.

Yes, I never fixed this. I've been meaning to email my distributor but I was thinking I'd try flashing it one more time first and just haven't gotten around to it. If you are up for building some kind of hacked kernel module, I am happy to test it out. :)
