Can The Gp32 Do These?......

I am thinkn of goin into the higer handheld world, and was wonderin, should I get the Z or the GP...
I would get the GP if it can....

Connect to the net and surf or play MP games on it (if so, how?)

and...

Is there a rechargeable batt-pack for it? whats the best?

Is 128 mb really the largest it can go in expansion terms?

how much memory is on it to start (in megabytes ) for me to put games and movies on

How long does the battery last when watchin movies? ( no oc )

Is the movie player fulscreen?

How good is the MP3 player?

how long is the battery life when playing MP3's? (no oc)

Is it easy to stick movies and MP3's on the GP32?

Is there a PDF viewer for the GP and whats the best?

Is there a notepad thingy were I can right stuff?

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST....

will any palm os products work on the GP?

I know that its alot, but I feel they are easy for you guys
Thx for your help ( pls dont call me a noob, less u want lol )

Uh...

"Connect to the net and surf or play MP games on it (if so, how?)"

-> I think Blood Cross will support that.. But there arent any Games supporting that yet.

"Is there a rechargeable batt-pack for it? whats the best?"

-> Use recharable Akkus :p

"Is 128 mb really the largest it can go in expansion terms?"

-> Yes

"how much memory is on it to start (in megabytes ) for me to put games and movies on"

-> There isnt any Harddrive on it... Just buy a 128 mb smc..

How long does the battery last when watchin movies? ( no oc )

-> Good Batteries last up to 6 hours with FLU turned on

Is the movie player fulscreen?

-> Yes

How good is the MP3 player?

-> Uhmm good? The EuMP3 PLayer is great... But i recommend using Yogg because .ogg is much smaller so you can put more songs on your smc

how long is the battery life when playing MP3's? (no oc)

-> 12 Hours? Dont know...

Is it easy to stick movies and MP3's on the GP32?

-> Yes.. Just connect and then its copy&paste

Is there a PDF viewer for the GP and whats the best?

-> No

Is there a notepad thingy were I can right stuff?

-> Yes.. You can use Windups

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST....

will any palm os products work on the GP?
-> No

Looks like you need a PDA that can play some games, rather than a games machine that can do some PDA stuff. I'd say go for a Zodiac. I'd prefer to keep those funtions seperate to be honest, which is why I have both :D (GP32 and PDA, not zodiac)

Here is a quick handheld deciding checklist:

If you want a notepad and pdf reader, get a pocket pc.

If you want to play Palm games like Solitaire and 1000 different Space Invaders clones, get a Zodiac.

If you want to play emulated 8 and 16-bit games get a GP32.

If you want to play up-to-date games and have a lot of money, get a GBA.

There is no Euro MP3 Player! You're probably confusing it with the k2yaa mp3 player.

Let me try to conclude this thread by addressing all of your questions in 1 post.

1) currently you cannot connect to the internet with it nor play multiplayer games with it. I've seen pictures of a device to connect the GP32 to a cell phone, but I have not seen it on sale anywhere and havent heard anything about it in the months i've spent browsing this forum. There is an RF link that allows you to play multiplayer games but in that case both players have to have GP32s with RF Links and they must be within a certain range of each other (10 meters).

2) The GP32 uses standard AA batteries. So you can get yourself a pair of NiMH batteries and a charger from most electronic stores.

3) 128MB is the maximum capacity. The GP32 uses 3.3v Smart Media Cards as storage and the maximum size available is 128MB, plus it seems that the BIOS is set to only recognize 128MB.

4) Unlike a PDA, the GP32 has 8MB of RAM which is usable when executing programs. It does not have any internal storage memory so a Smart Media Card is REQUIRED. Without a memory card you cant do anything with your GP32.

5) I am not familiar with the movie player, but as someone else already stated, good batteries will last around 6 hours.

6) Yes, the movie player is full screen. Keep in mind that the GP32 only has 1 worthwhile movie player which must be purchased. It is less than $10 so its not expensive at all.

7) I have not used this but I've read that it is very good quality. You should definitely not use the MP3 player included in the original firmware (BIOS). You should just download the new MP3 player and launch it via Free Launcher.

8) I am not familiar with this either, but I've read that the GP32 will last from 8 - 12 hours depending on your batteries.

9) It is VERY EASY to stick anything in the GP32. If you have a Smart Media card reader, you just COPY & PASTE stuff to it like you would any other drive on your PC. If you want to connect the GP32 to your PC with a USB cable it is also easy to move stuff to it, you just use the PCLink program which can be compared to a sort of Windows Explorer where you can copy & paste things around. Plus recently there has been development in a program to allow you to use your GP32 as a card reader basically, so that you can think of the GP32 as just another drive on your PC. The program is called GpDrive I think.

10) There is currently no PDF viewer for the GP32. Please keep in mind that the GP32 has a resolution of 320x240 so even if there was one, I don't think it would be very comfortable to use. There is how ever a TXT file viewer.

11) I believe there might be one although I've never used it. But think about this though, the GP32 has NO touch screen capability and NO keyboard. And since there is no stylus or touch screen, even if there was a virtual keyboard provided in the program, it would be quite tedius to move the cursor around with the joystick. (NOTE: Yes there is a way to hack a keyboard and use it on the GP32, but so far no program has been released with support for it.)

It sounds like you really want a PDA.

I recommend the GP32 if you are a coder yourself and would like to try and write your own stuff for it, or if you enjoy emulation and would like to remember the good old days of 8 bit gaming. NES and PC Engine (TurboGrafx 16) emulators are excellent. Gameboy & GameGear are also good. SNES is getting there, and Sega Genesis still has some way to go.

Hopefully this long reply will have cleared a lot of the doubts you had in your mind.

Octavius,

To clarify, watching movies on the Gamepark is not simply cut&paste. There is an encoding process, which can be accomplished using Virtual Dub (freeware). A helpful guide can be found at http://www.gp32emu.com. The directions are simple to follow, though some common issues are synchronization, frameskip or fluidity, and color. But playing a movie on GP32 is a rewarding experience, and done well will look and sound great.

Hope it helps!
