Blu+ - Why So Much Dearer?

Hi,

I'm just wondering after looking on eBay why the BLU+ is so much more valuable than other models like the FLU or BLU....can anyone tell me why?

well, blu screen is way better than flu screen, but honestly i dont see a reason to pay more for a blu+ than for a blu.

They are also newer, just about a year old, with theoretically less wear and tear.
but the blu+ has troubles playing certain emulators/games, which sucks

Presumably people assume something with a + at the end is better than something without, as opposed to simply different.

Personally, I'd take advantage of that fact, and find the cheap stuff :D

But the BLU+ screen is the best of all, its much brighter and has proper VGA colours.

What has problems with the blu+?

Hum, Giana's Return, if I recall correctly.

But before one finds out it ain't such a big deal, one gets stressed and burdened, and an ... ulcer?

Hum, someone was working on a general fix on it... Fixed GPcinema2, if I recall correctly...

Make sure you get a BLU or a BLU+ the others are not as good. Or wait for the GP2X to come out.

And of course, Pinball Dreams, unless I'm much mistaken. And presumably a few other commercial titles (especially those involving scrolling), let alone those homebrew bits and pieces that haven't been fixed simply because they're too obscure or the authors have moved on.

Is, for example, GPWar BLU+ compatible? I haven't a clue, but I believe Aquafish had long since departed when the BLU+ became the norm, and I can't recall any patches released. What about KoF95? Again, Thor departed well before the BLU+ arrived if memory serves, and I can't recall a patch being released once again. Maybe it wasn't needed, but I suspect at least it would have the line bug.

That said, these days, it seems quite possible to patch games/proggies without the source (many thanks to the guy who pioneered this, although can't remember his name), but even still, its not quite true to say that all things work these days. Just the ones that most people buy their GP32s for.

Bah, don't listen to this. The FLU is the best GP32, you can play it indoors AND outdoors. Neither the NLU, BLU, or BLU+ can say that. The BLUs are best for playing in a dim room, but I can say I've played my FLU on the beach while drinking Corona, can any BLU(+) owners say that? Nope.

Seriously though, wait for GP2X if you want the next best thing.

Cheers!

You pay the extra because its a Blu+1 of Vanquishing

You always pay more for +1 duh.

This is very true. Rumour has it that the GP2X was originally going to be the GP+2, but it got lost in the translation. :D

Blah. I have had a FLU and a BLU, and would choose a BLU over a FLU any day, the screen quality is just so much better.

I don't think those titles are new enough to have used the unofficial SDK, its only programs which used the alternative SDK with porblems, anything made with the GP SDK works fine on both units.

Is it true the gp2x will get a screen of better quality than the BLU ones?
So you can play outdoor and indoor?

hm i think it's still a bit too reflective for playing outdoor: watch the movie where the gp2x is running those NGCD games, you'll see what I mean..

i have a FLU and love it. heartily recommend it.
never seen a BLU (or BLU+) but i would trade up in a second. after what i have heard it's worth it. i have been considering watching ebay for one once GP2X is out and people start unloading..

'course if anyone wants to do a straight swap BLU for FLU, lemme know (though I am sure no one'll want do to that.. heh heh heh)

I don't know, I've had some trouble getting Frodo or the Atari emus to work on my BLU+. I'm pretty sure this is my own inexperience, but someone alluded to the idea that those ones don't work very well on the BLU+, so it's possible.

I've also heard that on the BLU+, many of the components (not just the screen) are better made, such as the stick and shoulder buttons. I can't compare so I don't know if this holds water, but it was another suggestion.

As for the screen, it definitely is great. I've been keeping my stupid little plastic film on it because I'm so worried about ruining it!

Yeah I figured as much. Someone said they aren't that great but I figured maybe it was me. C64 loads my games and then freezes, so I don't know..
