One of my fav games when it comes to FPP, I love the atmosphere etc.

Is anybody planning to port it? With Shadow Warrior and Duke3D ports based on the same engine as Blood, maybe somebody will now try to make us happy with Blood?

I will happily donate, as I stated in other thread.

I really can't blame you for wanting Blood on the GP2X, Trainchaser. It was one of my all-time favorite games for the PC. However, Monolith would never release anything of their source to the public. Even though it's based on the BUILD engine used in such games as Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and I think Redneck Rampage, the blood version of the BUILD engine isn't public.

When Blood 2 was in the early stages of planning, I'm pretty sure Monolith decided to design their own true 3D engine, which led them to make the LITHTECH engine. That was mostly because BUILD was essentially a patchwork quilt of messy code apparently.

Even now, people who use the Duke Nukem BUILD engine code say it's a nightmare to sort through.

Hell I'd be happy with a windows port! To get it running in XP is way too much hassle... and then it runs badly at that. :(

To run it properly on an XP machine, get a dos diskette, with all the basic drivers/parameters, then run MOSLO to slow your machine down enough to keep it stable.

Blood was a pain in the ass for me to get working too but after a little googling I found http://buildxp.deathmask.net/ I already used vdmsound (without the launch-pad) and overall with most of the games I've tried to run, it and scummvm worked better than dosbox. By following the instructions I managed to get blood working perfectly on my XP PRO SP2 machine! Just a shame we can't play it on the move

Hey, did any of you guys ever got your hands on that early leaked version of Blood?

I remember playing with this early version of Blood by Q Studios, a company that got bankrupt(?) and the game was I believe a few years later (!) released by Monolith.

The Q Studios version was far darker and more with a satanism feel to it. It had all the artwork that's in the final game, but ALL the levels were changed and the original version feels like a stupid cowboy game compared to the Q one.

There was no menu and all the levels were in no particular order. I remember finding out through .bat files how we could start the game with a level. There was one level called 'menu' and it had gravestones with text on them like 'sound', 'options', 'easy' etc.
Some levels had textures with a cross through them and the text 'change me please!'

I am serious. Anyone saw it? Anyone has it?

If not, I'm gonna call all my friends from way back to ask if they have any old hard drives that might still hold that version of the game, because it was really a production copy and maybe had the source code in it!

-edit-

I found something about Q Studios - here I'm not making this up. ;)

Well since this thread has been resuscitated from death, thought I should mention that I recall there was a pretty complete Blood mod for ZDoom made at some stage, and now that we have a shiny new port of ZDoom....

/me goes to look for the mod.

Isn't a Doom mod crappy compared to the real BUILD engine?
Maybe it's easier to convert to Duke3d source. :)

Anyway I found the early Q studios leak!
I don't know if it's the one I remember, I quickly played some maps and couldn't find the watercaves and ovens with 'replace me please' textures I so vividly remember...

IT HAS SOURCE CODE AND EVERYTHING :D

I don't know about the final version, but in the alpha you definitely need to jump to get around.. You cannot jump in Doom

I guarantee you that anything you can do in the build engine you can do in ZDoom, plus lots more stuff.

ZDoom is a port of Doom, which means that it is a vastly improved Doom engine. You have mouse looking, jumping, ducking, flying, internet gaming, high res, mp3 sound etc.

Nice, I didn't know that. Have you tried the blood mod? Does it have a similar feel or is it notably different?

I take you mean this one:

No, I wasn't really keen about taking it to ZDoom, but he was right. The Doom engine cannot do what the Build engine can, but it CAN come awful dang close with ZDoom.

So I guess it's only as real a thing as a hobbyist would find reasonable, working for a year.

I don't know if this was available at that time, but I read there's a BUILD to QUAKE1 map converter... but this would involve coding the enemies into quake.

Ever wondered why the levels on the Blood screenshots in the GOODIES folder from the Duke 3d retail CD are nowhere to be found in the actual Blood game? It's because the screenshots are from before Monolith rebuild the entire story (and maps).

I got the leaked version 10+ years ago from a source other than internet (which I didn't have at the time). When I asked some friends if they still have it, one of them pointed me to a page from a site that is down, but the leaked releases page is still working:

http://www.apogeegames.com/beta2.html

Game source code (bsource.zip) password: elcycer
Communication source (comm1120.zip) password: jello
Setup source (stup1122.zip) password: jello

Download it now because a quick whois tells us the domain will expire on 02-MAY-09 ;)

Btw. I managed to open the whole site by adding index2.html at the end of the address :)
