Bethesda / Zenimax takes down DoomRL

I think the problem is just that they used the Doom name (and logo) in a context where they expect to get money. All they need to do is specify that Zenimax doesn't endorse nor sponsors the project.

Not quite, they have not requested that they take the game down, nor have they demanded that no Doom assets are used. They just need to remove the Bethesda/Zenimax logos from their product, as it's not officially endorsed.

Honestly, can none of you read?

You do know that with "Zenimax's trademark" they mean the word "Doom" since "Doom" is a trademark owned by Zenimax (since 2009 afaik)...

Don't get me wrong, I don't really support such takedown notices, but he kinda had it coming when he used it as stepping stone for his Kickstarter campaign. It isn't the same as right out selling a fan work, but it sure is taking monetary gain from it indirectly.
If that's really their reason, it could've been handled better, of course.
In the end he got even more support, as usual.

But let's face it: They do own the rights to the franchise and can choose to endorse certain projects or not. You shouldn't be able to trademark a normal word though.

Should have the title changed and loads sprites directly from the WAD.
It's an ascii game, so unless it can convert sprites to colour ascii on the fly, that wouldn't work. I've seen gif->ascii convertors in the past, but they generally resulted in massive non-optimsed ascii art, because they didn't know what was important in the image and what wasn't.

Oh that sucks.

...Which is what I said. AFAICS, no takedown was ordered. Honestly, can you you not read?

Oh cool! Will try this out immediatly :D
[doublepost=1481150882,1481146502][/doublepost]Got the text mode version of DooM RL to run on the Pandora (with sounds and music).

The graphic mode (that use OpenGL) doesn't want to run for now as it require 800x600 screen mode.
I'll try some hack tomorrow, too late now for this.

This one looks popular.

Question is, because of the potential legal issue, once I have a PND ready, should I upload it to the repo, keep it in the beta section or simply keep it for myself and just put a few more screenshots here?

The legal issue is just to remove the trademarks from their website, they didn't send a cease&desist for the game, so it should be ok.
