Two different USB problems. I have a rev C which has an unstable power supply to the USB host port. It works most of the time, but sometimes it will crash when transferring data over the USB. Replacing the capacitor did not completely fix the problem.
I just sent mine in for RMA. I have no problems soldering my own projects; if I mess up I've usually got a few spare whatevers lying around. I'm a little less confident when putting a soldering iron next to the only $150 whatever I happen to have
I remember when I first reported the problem and was told it was a software issue, and upgrading the kernel should fix it. Then it was a known hardware issue with a software workaround. I've been dealing with this since April: you have no idea how many hacks I've written into my kernel and software to make it work with minimal downtime. Still, going down 5 minutes every 3 or 4 days is too often for what I wanted it for, especially when the odds of it going down increased when I was actually using it.
Fortunately, MWeston has assured me that the Pandora will not have this problem. Hopefully there aren't other unforeseen hardware issues. I'm kind of miffed that the BB guys aren't more... apologetic?.. about the problem. But the beagle board is, by design, a hobbyist device: it's not entirely unexpected for something to be wrong with it. I'm kind of afraid of what might happen if such a major hardware bug were to sneak into the Pandora; it's a lot more "professional", even in its niche group. Will users be as accepting of "this may fix it, but if not, too bad, buy the next revision which fixes it" or will the stack hit the heap?
