So I'm going to start streaming games, just single player NES, SNES, Genesis/Master System, Game Gear, stuff like that. I was wondering if anyone here is currently streaming on twitch.

The reason I'm doing it is I find it hard to play single player games if I'm not hanging out with people. Kinda hard to do on a regular basis. When I was a kid me and my little brother played single player games together, one watched and when the other died the controller was passed. I miss that and the easiest way to 'hang out' while playing a game is on twitch.

The computer I'm playing can't play much while using OBS, on SNES I started out on higan and it was too much for my computer while streaming so I dropped down to Snes9x, that is how bad my notebook is.

This month I'm starting with Earthbound, I have a SNES classic so I own it legally so Nintendo can't sue. I applied a hack to the rom that improves the controls, something I can't live without once I tried it. Then on to Shining Force II, I owned it as a kid but never passed it. If there is time left in September I'll go onto Defenders of Oasis, a game I loved on the Game Gear and actually forgot about until it was mentioned here. Next month horror games as it is Halloween, have Clock Tower and Sweet home patched for English, both games I wanted to pass but never sat down and did it.

Anyway, I'll be playing 6 to 10 PM my time every nigh, Denver time. I think I can keep that schedule. This won't interfere with work either. Classic game streamers don't get many viewers so they don't make money but eh, if I wanted to make money I'd spend a ton of money on a new computer and recording equipment but I don't want to do that.

Maybe when I get a Pyra I can also get a capture card and play directly off of that.

I think that all streamers are fake and gay.
Well, I'm playing games I want to play but don't get many viewers. I'm only doing it for a few months anyway, after that I'm going back to Panama and continuing my bicycle tour of Latin America. This is just a way for me to relax after a year on my bicycle.

I'm also not going to be loud or obnoxious or anything.

Well, first stream was somewhat of a success, I had 3 viewers but two hours in I tried dropping a save state it got corrupted and when loading it it kept crashing Snes9x. DOH!

Also I think two hours, 6 to 8, is enough, more if I feel like it. I saw people come and go for the first hour and so I just started talking to myself and then people stayed. The delay messes with you, you see someone come on but if you weren't talking 10 or 15 seconds before they show up they're gone.

Tomorrow I'm going to get a banner of some sort to advertise my twitch and maybe people here will drop in. I'm also thinking of calling my brother and having him drop in to talk to while I play.

Where can I find you?

I'm occasionally live on twitch
Streaming Metroid Prime the other day a guy from southern Germany found me, could talk Bavarian for a few hours and he helped me out with my game - usually I tunnel vision pretty hard :)
I don't want hundreds of viewers. I'd rather have a nice chat with just a small number of people. Kinda like RL, I don't enjoy crowded places.

If only there was a way to distinguish twitch streamers and vegans.
I found a few good people to watch on twitch. It is just like watching long plays on youtube but you get to interact with them. In fact one of my favorite people on youtube, UnPlayedAThing, is doing it now.

I steered clear of it at first because most people on twitch are just girls showing off cleavage or guys shrieking at the top of their lungs. Unfortunately these get most of the views but there are some people that you can have on in the background and have small enough audiences that I can actually interact with them.

I don't see a distinction between twitch and youtube, most of youtube is cat videos and AI generated 5 finger songs but there is some stuff worth watching also.

Half of the videos that come down via my youtube subscriptions these days are recordings of twitch streams, at least for the gaming channels I follow. I rarely watch them because I don't have two hours I want to commit to watching a video like that.

I usually have one running in the background or if I'm at my desk on my second monitor.

I often brag about how I don't watch TV anymore but I'm starting to think I've just replaced it with streaming movies, games, and youtube. . .

Ok, so tonight I sat for two hours and talked to myself. Anyone want to drop in? We could talk about the Pyra. I just trapped the Zombies on Zombie Paper on Earthbound.

Yeah, I talked to myself. Twitch is weird, you can either see the chat or who is in the chat but not both. There is a 7 second delay is all, I thought it was a lot worse.

Anyway, I stream 7 to 9 PM, my time zone is Denver, CO time zone, or GMT-6. I'm trying to stream Monday through Saturday. I've been working on some graphics for my stream but having difficulty relearning graphics programs, err, the open source equivalent of the ones I used. So my stream doesn't look fancy yet, I'm working on making it fancy for a game I'm planning on streaming in October.

Anyway, my link is:

EDIT: Huh, I remember I haven't got a custom icon yet. Anyway, drop in tomorrow and we can chat about the Pyra and Pandora while I play Earthbound.
