The Games Convention became absolutly boring to me.
I visited the very first con as a press guy and had a very nice time there, excited visitors and exhibitors, you could smell it that it will become a success. The second year I was there as an exhibitor, we all were pretty busy with our own booth but I also had a bit of time left to visit the people of the other comanies booth and discuss with them about the Games Convention, the exhibitors and the reaction they had. It looks like the big business without giving me a new thrill if I were just a visitor. Nintendo and some other companies just took place at the second Games Convention cause the first one was a big success. That was business which rang their alarm bells, not the passion. If it were passion, they had not annoucened something like "we're not taking place at the first Games Convention because we don't believe it will be successful" back in 2002.
Anyway, we get rid of five FLU GP32 which the visitors were able to win at our booth. Lucky people. Any my personal one was stolen, argh!
In the end: Nope, I won't participate at the Games Convention 2oo4. It will be nothing but boring to me, I've already seen everything I want to see, from every point of view. It will be nothing but more commercial and louder...
And by the way... at the same time there will be the
Bünzli 13 in Switzerland. I'll be there for sure while most of the others will be at the Games Convention. If you're anyway interested in the Bünzli, which will be much more familiar and comfortable and you'll find more party, alcohol and a nice community (as well as exotic hardware like our GP32 and non-commercial software), keep yourself informed at
