I've heard that due to the disaster in Japan, many computer component prices are jumping in price. Apparently RAM prices have increased 20% in the last 3 days. I hope this will not put the Pandora project in peril again.

I'd be surprised if this disaster didn't worsen the word's already bad economy.

How about there's another dark cloud, there is a freaking disaster in japan!!!

(sorry but I just hate the damn egotism surrounding these things, oy it might delay the pandora, oy they shut down the final fantasy servers, oy X persons of nationality Y died (hate that even more I dont need to know how many dutch people died its a bloody disaster no mather where the people came from) lets think about the people in japan who lost home, work and family instead of our silly little problems!

Psh, sit down and care about shortsighted things like everyone else, citizen.

That said, I was surprised to find there actually are people whining about the FF servers. One would think the few people egotistical enough to care would be happy with their free month.

I'm 100% in agreement with bosbeetle here. Seriously, tens of thousands of people may have lost their lives, and many, many more have lost their homes and livelihoods, and you're worried that your Pandora might be a little more expensive? Please, have a little respect.

EDIT: That said, doesn't OP already have all the parts and they just need assembling?

Reminds me of when people were waiting for Wiz consoles and they were worried a north/south Korean war would delay them.

Priorities.

I didn't mean to belittle the situation, but that does not prevent us from discussing the other effects the situation may have.

I agree! Sure this disaster'll have a ripple effect on the world economy, but is that really where the focus should be?!

As the parts we need for Batch 2 are already reserved for us and produced, it shouldn't affect the Pandora.

However, this is not just your random stuff with delays... it's a horrible incident.

Much worse than the last volcano...

The people in Japan are definately worth A LOT more than any economic hits or delays we might get in any products.

The earthquake was so powerful it actually moved the entire island of Japan several feet.

The resulting shift in the Earth's mass caused the Earth's axis to tilt 25 cm. The day is now 1.8 microseconds shorter than it was before. That's about .000657 seconds per year. That is actually a huge number to be off by when you think of atomic clocks. I wonder if they're going to redefine a second (a fractional amount that would have no effect on anyone but scientists measuring the speed of light) or simply add negative leap second calculations into the calendar.

My underwear now has skidmarks.

This kind of unexpected event changing the solar length of a day or year is usually handled using the leap second mecanism. Did you really think you could take a normalization committee by surprise ? ;)

edit: oh, you knew about leap seconds, my bad. Well, now people have a link too.
