Ancient thread I made a long time ago

Seems like such a wonderful community here, reminds me of the PSP's glory days. Back before websites started banning talk of homebrew and such, ah those were some good times.

nothin, dude, its just that we've been gettin so many spam posts lately, then this one pops up and its totally devoid of any content (i realize the problem, I was just joking)

You can be pretty sure that Firefox and MPlayer will be ported. As far as specific features for SNES emulation, check out the GP2X emulators to get a taste of things to come.

I always had serious lag in online emulation. I remember trying it out with an NES emulator on two computers in the same room and it wasn't playable in SMB3. I suppose it might work for things like Pokemon or card games where lag isn't a huge issue.

Spreadsheet viewer? A mini Open Office might make it's way over. A text editor is just a given. My mind would explode if that wasn't included by default.

Anyways, great ideas.

Nice list Romaster2 :)

Also I like the idea proper Aspect Ratio,Window,Pillar Boxing. I think they do that with 4:3 games on xbox live quite cool idea :).

I also hope most emus have 2X Sai, HQ2x , Super Eagle etc..

It seems like we have a fan of rhythm games. I could easily see a port of Beat2x. That was a popular DDR clone for the GP2X.

Command & Conquer
  • Command & Conquer is a very popular PC Real-Time Strategy series
  • None of the Games are Open Source, causing problems. In the C&C Red Alert thread, there is a reverse engineered Red Alert 1 Engine, but to my knowledge there is nothing else.
  • I personally would like to see Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge on the Pandora, I play that game enough as it is on my PC.

Red Alert 1: Retaliation has a PSX version, I've played it on my PSP

On Osu:

Might be a bit difficult because of it's closed source-ness. I'm no authority here, but from what I do know, an OpenGL version and subsequently a Linux port are distant in the pipeline... I'm going on a limb here, but I would assume that the closed-sourceness is to better protect the online ranking functionality, so maybe an open source stripped-down client might become available through natural means.

Now with that said, the creator and guardian of the Source has been known to distribute documentation on various specific things (such as timing and hitcircle rules, and more importantly, documentation on the beatmap file format) to those who ask with a sincere desire to build their own ports from scratch, though all such projects that I know of are not making any visible progress, so I have refrained from getting my hopes up thus far.

Either way, Osu on a touchscreen would be freaking sweet, and any progress towards that goal makes me pretty damn excited.

I've seen discussion of filters and such like 2xSaI, and I'm sure the emulation devs intend to make the emulation look as fabulous as possible. They seem more concerned with run speed and compatibility though, so the window bling (which I think is adorable, by the way) is probably low on the list.

For web, it's been said that Firefox 3 should run, and that should satisfy much of your list. Flash support will be reliant on open source code. It's not fantastic, but it handles some basic needs.

There will be music players. There's been a lot of interest, so I wouldn't be surprised to see several different ones available, since everyone seems to have their own personal favorite.

There's been mention of Gnumeric and Abiword for spreadsheet and text/document editing.

Several people have mentioned Frets on Fire and other rhythm games, enough that I expect something ported. And for your tiny guitar needs, this is rather cute. (Tried to link to the technabob review article, but it's down now.)

There were suggestions of other games instead of Command & Conquer in the forums. It's not open source, but you could play the PS1 version of C&C and C&C:RA.

Osu would be great on the pandora but it uses .net, opengl, and dx9.
If someone could make a game compatible with the beatmaps though it would make for a great port.

Again, someone in the community is porting it to the iPhone.
