A certain rarity...

As far as I can tell, it didn't get a fan in the other applications for the Tegra 2 SoC:

I doubt that there is a fan in this. Possible, but doubtful.

I'm just curious to see if it has a fan. Near the back are what really look like ventilation vents, yet I don't hear or feel anything while it's running.

Yeah, I doubt it has a fan as well, but anything is possible I suppose. Even if there is one, depending on what state this unit was at, it may have never been set up for use.

Plus, ventilation holes predate computer fans by quite a long way, or even aluminium heat sinks (on the chips anyway, PSUs often had them inside even back then). It's only really phones that started this vogue for not having any sort of obvious dust ingress port (although dust usually finds a way in somehow, I find).

So I have an even earlier version of this device a Engineering Sample unit, it doesn't have the OS and only boots into an engineering mode for testing the system. I was curious if OP is active id like to dump the distro or make an offer on the device to do so myself and properly document and catalog this device, I have an extensive project based on this kicking off very soon. You can PM me on twitter @OfficialIntrenz for reference im a QA Engineer/Debugging specialist for Sony, and am licensed with Nintendo. I am exceptionally thorough and precise with documenting hardware of this nature so am looking for as much information that I dont already have as possible. If OP can be contacted or is active please get in touch with me.

Thanks and all the best.
-Jeff
