Hi all,

I have recently bought a GP2X, and I also bought a Transcend 4Gb SDCard for it.

Unfortunately my card reader will only allow me to format the first Gig.

I have tried the fix file on Transcends website with no luck. I've also played around in disk manager and also
diskpart with no joy.

I think basically the problem is that my year or so old card reader simply cannot handle this card.

Could people please list any readers that they have successfully used a 4Gb SD Card on ?

I'm aware of 2, but unfortunately they dont seem to be available in the UK.
These are the SimpleTech Bonzai, and Transcends own portable one.

Thanks in advance for any help !

are you formatting with fat or fat32? I believe only fat32 will format the device so that you can use all of its space.

As for a good card reader if thats not your issue I don' t know :(

Thanks for the reply anyway !

Just to confirm for the next guy searching the forums :-

The Sandisk reader mentioned above had no problems with my Transcend 4GB card, so I no have the full capacity.

Thanks again to Blades.

I think your reader is definitely to blame..

I got a 4gb transcend card and it works a treat in my GP2X. It was preformated to 4gb (3.85gb usable space) FAT32 when I got it. Since then I've formatted it under XP as FAT32 and it still works fine.

I got my reader/writer from picstop.co.uk, £11.95 inc VAT+p&p, listed as:
Secure Digital (SD)/MMC Reader/Writer - USB 2.0

My transcend card was from offtek.co.uk and is about £78 inc postage etc.

I had a very similar problem, but with a 2gb card. No matter what I used on windows to format it, I always got a 1GB only. What I did was telent over to the GP2X and use mkfs to create the filesystem. That solved my problem.

mkfs -t msdos /dev/mmcsd/disc0/part1
