GP32 Some Ideas For The Next Gp32

I agree with Chip. There's no reason why such a handheld shouldn't be built. I've been thinking along similar lines. Only perhaps a few custom chips could be thrown in for graphics. Other thoughts: Linux OS (but with specially coded whatsits to allow it to run existing GP32 software) Many...

    fixing Doom

I remember the first time I played Doom on my Amiga. Those were the days... I knew the Amiga could do better than Alien Breed 3D.

    What about a comic viewer?

    Yup, loads.

    Amiga emulation

In all likelihood, I think an Amiga emulator would run well (CaSTaway speed), except with those titles that make a lot of use of the custom chips (and lots of titles did). A1200 emulation would be absolutely impossible, I'd imagine.

    That SDL port

Hi folks. I've been reading about the new SDL port that's being done (thanks to www.gp32news.com). Read about it here: http://www.libsdl.org/index.php Sounds exciting. Can anyone a little more knowledgeable expand upon the potential implications for the GP32? Cheers, Paul

Unless I am mistaken, that's 'Simon Lotion, Time and Motion Man' from the infamous Viz comic.

    Help.. Virtual Dub

It takes no longer to do it via Razorlame than it does via Virtualdub, but it's up to you...

    What about a comic viewer?

I have to wonder how much skill it would take. Most of the code could probably be taken from GPL projects. I only have Windows (Visual C++) programming experience, but I'm considering the possibility of learning how to code for the GP32 so that I could do this. It'd make the GP32 even better...

    Releasing Beta copies of games....

(Points at --==> skeezix!) - Yeah, what he said! Some people here are out to confuse me.

    Help.. Virtual Dub

The sound should be MP3, but it should be compressed in Razorlame, not Virtualdub as most guides insist. Compressing the audio in Virtualdub is what's causing your problems.

    Help.. Virtual Dub

Contrary to what you may have read, encoding the sound in Virtualdub is a Bad Thing. It totally depends upon what you're trying to encode as to how you should extract the audio, but if it's from an AVI or MPG, then Virtualdub can extract it for you ('Save Wav'). Then simply encode the audio...

    What about a comic viewer?

This should be pretty easy for a capable coder - a program to view comics stored in ComicDisplay format - these are just JPEG files stored in ZIP or RAR archives. The GP32 ought to be quite good for this sort of thing, I'd have thought. Just select a level of zoom and pan around the comic to...

    encoding with virtual dub

You'd need to ensure that B-Frames, GMC and Q-PEL were all turned off. B-Frames are on by default. Also, make sure that psychovisual enhancement is not being used, just to be safe... Good news about xvid though.

Surely - that's exactly what you CAN do?

    Xwing Clone

Wasn't 'Wing Commander' released for the ST? Does that work in CaSTaway?

    What ever happened to....

This game was absolute junk on the Amiga, if it's any consolation. One of the worst titles I ever played.

So, is somebody working on a x86 emulator?

The Amiga had a PC emulator, and that would run on a machine running at 30mhz and 2 megs of RAM! I believe an x86 emulator could be programmed that would run the most basic titles (perhaps even the earliest Sierra adventures?). Quite how fast it'd run is anyone's guess though.

    encoding with virtual dub

I really can't see why DivX 5.0x wouldn't work, as long as the FourCC 'used codec' code was changed to DIVX (with this program : http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avifourcc.html). DivX 4.12 and 5.0x files are essentially identical, so this 'hack' ought to work. Has anyone tried it? I would do...

    Virtual Dub Versions

I really do not go for this 'old version of Virtualdub produces smaller files' thing. If it produces smaller files, it's because the quality is worse. It's got to be a bug in the older version. I'd stick to the new one if you want good quality.
