While I'm all for community input, the decision ultimately belongs with those who create the game, if it ever gets created.

    Zombie Apocalypse Engine

Wouldn't modding quake to add RPG elements or a Dungen Master interface require some sort of programming? Can anybody tell me what the best way is to go about modding Quake? I had a look at the Quake 3 source, but my first impression is I'll have a hard time working with that. I like FIFE's...

This looks very interesting, an MMO version of Quake 2: http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/09/19/1555204 Edit: spelling

While I'm flattered that you consider me a real programmer, it should be noted that I've never written a full game engine and I haven't written a single piece of networking code in my entire life. You seem to assume I'm a better programmer than JavaJake, but maybe I'm just very good at writing...

Any free 3d models you find out there can also be used in FIFE by prerendering them. Alternatively, a pixel art style would be very easy to create for. Heck, even I could draw a halfway decent city block in pixel art. Also, while the Quake code is open source, I don't think the artwork is. I'll...

    Zombie Apocalypse

I don't know. Being less resource intensive, Quake 2 should allow for much bigger levels. Quake 1 should allow for yet bigger worlds. The same might be true for the number of players, though Quake 3's networking code may be more optimised. Edit: Then again, if you make Quake 3's geometry as...

    Zombie Apocalypse

Maybe zombies should just keep migrating in from wilderness at the edges of the map. I do think killing all zombies should be an optional game mode. In fact, I think the game should be as configurable and modifiable as possible. Creating mods should be easy. Did I mention FIFE supports Python...

Release Date - On Track ?

I suggest making the box all white, with the word "PANDORA" on the front in big black letters.

While I don't like the way the UI works, E17 does appear to have a set of powerful yet fast graphical libraries.

On the topic of Topdown Shooter versus FPS, the Pandora's controls are arguably better suited for a topdown shooter than for an FPS. (Though the pandora has better FPS controls than any other handheld I know of.)

I think we should keep the ideas in this thread, at least for now. But it'd be a good idea to let people fill in the role they're willing to play. A lot of design decisions will probably depend on the numbers and types of programmers, artists and level designers willing to work on the project...

My apologies, I agreed with your suggestions too much to dwell on them very long. :) I agree the preacher should see or sense somehow where the zombies are coming from. Not just where they're spawning, but also a rough indication of how many are in each direction and how far away. The preacher...

    Zombie Apocalypse

I guess the discussion boils down to: Shooter VS RPG Shooter As I proposed earlier, we could start with a shooter with a few RPG elements, and add *optional* more hardcore RPG elements when the action and networking is working well. A couple of people (including yours truly) seem to be...

FIFE looks like the perfect isometric engine! Except I couldn't find anything about multiplayer. But it's open source and it runs on Linux. From their forums:
