OK, so here was my desktop that was filled with conky stuff.
It's a bit dated now but you can see that you can access all sorts of machine and network info.
(In the examples below conky determines whether the Internet is connected via Ethernet / Wireless Router or GSM dongle and displays...

I do know though that it perfectly acceptable to photograph a public building from a public place e.g. the pavement.
There are also plenty of stock image sites that have graffiti photographs with the copyright holder being the photographer.

As for the ongoing discussion about cameraphones, you will never take a professional looking image with a lens the size of a pinhead, no matter how many mega-pixels.
You want quality images get quality glass...
As there are a lot of renders here, and I'm rubbish at drawing I thought that I'd a few photos of my own.
