Kind of. What really distinguishes the Pandora from the beagleboard is the proprietary hardware that's been added to the design -- Bluetooth and wi-fi antennae, d-pad and gaming controls, etc -- and the fact that it's packaged in a nice, polished case. It's a consumer device.
The beagle board...
I'd like to think that all of us who have had dealings with either of these two fine ladies (be it pre-orders, inquiries, or what have you) have already taken the time to say thanks for all the dedication and hard work.
Since it can't really be said enough, and they really are doing a fabulous...
Not sure. I added 2 units to my order at about half an hour before you did (adjusted for time difference -- before 8 AM US Central) and have not received a response.
Have faith, though. I have a feeling they were flooded with emails just after this topic went up. :D
Alt+tab.
There's a link here somewhere. I'll look for it.
EDIT: Ah, here it is. Task-switching should be pretty easy to do without multiple workspaces, and will allow you to switch quickly among multiple full-screen apps. Workspaces can be useful, though, and switching out your window...
Hmm.. that's a pretty tricky question, depeding on your use of the word 'port.' If you mean, how to get program x to run on the Pandora, I'm sure there will be plenty of how-to love on the wiki or on the individual project site. Most anything you'll want will either be installed in the base OS...
I'd guess we won't see as much development as quickly as the iPhone, since Craig, ED, et al just don't have the marketing juggernaut that Apple does -- the community will build itself rather than being pre-established and fanatical. The up side of this is that we also won't be seeing any...
I get that SD cards are inherently more secure than many other rewritable media, but this snippet caught my eye:
I've skimmed the article on on wikipedia, specifically the section on DRM, and I've also read the CPRM page, and I don't see the feature you're talking about here. My google-fu also...
There's been talk that the Pandora could possibly run an N64 emulator, so it should have the power. As for whether the code will port, check the portability flowchart from the wiki.
EDIT: My link was broken.
I'll find a nice, deep, dark hole in which to bury my BeagleBoard. Its simple one-assed schematic will be useless to me.
Hopefully, all the work I'm doing on the beagle will have paid off and I'll have a functioning mythtv client running within a few hours. As soon as I get my hands on this...
The news section at openpandora.org has been updated, so I don't think they're planning on delaying the release for the OS. It looks like 6 weeks from Jan 15th is the latest date they'll start shipping. Then again, 'late November' was presented as a pretty firm date, too. :P
Or on the wiki...
Then throw some money over here. :D
EDIT: I would also be willing to throw a couple dollars at a Saturn emulator. I'd have to see some results first, though.
